Description:Finding that special someone, the one destined to share your life with, is only half the battle. Everyday life, jobs and hectic schedules, constantly test those who have been lucky enough to find true love.
For Carrick Masters an orthopedic surgeon and Edward Boyd a young and talented defense attorney, hectic doesn’t even begin to describe their lives. The two men struggle to find balance, but it’s going to take more than a date-night, to get them back to what is truly important.
While I always appreciate the visual this genre of books brings to mind, many times they fail to deliver on the emotional side. I’m happy to say that is not the case with Masters & Boyd by SJD Peterson. What I really love about this story is that it is about two men who are married and are going through a rough patch. I have never read a M/M romance written this way (not to say there aren’t some out there) so this book is a very pleasant surprise.
Masters & Boyd starts out with a prologue that is two years in the future. I’ll admit I normally don’t like books that jump around in time, but after reading this one I understand why the author gave us this glimpse in to the future. Carrick Masters and Ed Boyd have been married for three years and although they are still very much in love, their careers and schedules are getting in the way of their relationship. Ed is a junior partner in his Dad’s law firm and Carrick is an orthopedic surgeon, both demanding jobs leaving them little time for each other. Their once blissful life has become mundane and a series of hit and run sexual encounters that are no longer satisfying.
I appreciated the fact that their problem isn’t sugar coated and the solution isn’t easy. They try many different ways to get back on track with their relationship many of which don’t work leading to frustration on both their parts. We get to see this from both of their points of view which gives us a little insight in to each of these complex men. I really liked how both men would get irritated with the other one and then realize they’d done the exact same thing at some point. Kind of an eye opener for them both!
During their path back to happily ever after they start to add some BDSM elements into their sex lives. While it’s evident from the start that Carrick is the dominant partner in their relationship, it kind of freaks Ed out that he enjoys bondage, erotic spankings, and being the submissive in M/s play. While there are these elements in the book, it’s not heavy and it really is interesting to watch how together they explore this type of play.
In this day and age it seems many people just give up when the going gets tough, so I sincerely admire the way these men worked very hard to stay together. Carrick and Ed have a true marriage (despite what the law says) and they both know what they want…each other no matter what they have to give up to make it happen. This is the first book I’ve read by SJD Peterson but it won’t be the last. The development of these two characters, the interesting subject matter, and a believable path back to happily ever after make this a great book.

Sounds interesting. I liked how the review talked about the book delving into the frustrations of these two extremely busy men trying to balance their demanding jobs with time and care for their relationship.
