Today our own Kimber is pleased to be interviewing two of Cassandra Carr’s characters, Conner Raub from Impact and Brady Parrish from Collision.
Kimber: Thanks for being here, boys!
Brady: Glad to be here, darlin’.
Conner: Anything we can do to help out Cassandra is something we’re happy to do.
Kimber: Well, aren’t you guys, um, enthusiastic.
Conner: You have no idea, ma’am. *winks at Kimber*
Brady: Would you want us any other way?
Kimber: Certainly not. So, tell us about life as a bull rider…
Conner: It’s a lot of travel and standin’ around followed by hopefully eight seconds on a bull. Not that interesting, which is why we need…other…things to distract us.
Brady: You’re gonna scare the poor woman.
Conner: She’s read my story, she knows precisely what I’m talking about, don’t you, sugar?
Kimber: Uh, yeah. You’re a Dom.
*Conner grins and Brady rolls his eyes*
Kimber: Anyhoo…
Brady: You asked about being a bull rider. Well, there’s actually a lot of technique to it, and you need to be in real good shape to take on those bulls.
Kimber: *mutters to herself* That’s obvious.
Conner: What was that, sweets?
Kimber: Nothing. So what types of exercises do you do to stay in shape.
*Conner starts to grin again*
Brady: Cut it out, man. You’re intimidating her. We do weights, some cardio stuff. It’s really important to have good core strength so your balance is the best it can be.
Conner: What he said. *whistles innocently*
Kimber: So tell us how you guys fell in love with your respective ladies…
Conner: Oh man. For me, it was pretty much love at first sight, even though I didn’t admit to myself at the time. My Jessiegirl was gettin’ manhandled by this, er, jerk, and before I knew it I was running in there like some kinda white knight.
Brady: Yeah, you were a goner way before you admitted it.
Conner: *snorts* Like you were any better?
Brady: Not really, but at least I figured it out faster than you did.
Kimber: Boys, boys, let’s not fight…
Conner: We’re not fighting. This is a normal conversation for us.
Kimber: And yet you’re best friends…moving on. So who’s going to win the big prize for the bull riding tour this year?
Brady: Actually, I doubt either one of us will. I bettin’ on Marco D’Allesandro. He’s an Italian bull rider who I have newfound respect for. Y’all will figure out why when you read his story. I think Cassandra said it was coming out in June or July.
Conner: You know, you may be right. The kid’s got it.
Brady: Kid? He’s our age, bud.
Kimber: Is there anything else you’d like to say?
Conner: Just that I love Cassandra. *blows a kiss*
Brady: Dude, if you sucked up anymore you’d be totally pussy-whipped.
Conner: I don’t mind that, though I’d rather it was Jessi-
Brady: Yeah, we got it.
Kimber: I appreciate both of you being here today. Good luck on the tour!

Rodeo and bull riders. Oh my. The smell of rawhide and resin is what led to my first broken heart. Did that stop me from lusting after bull riders? Not a chance. They’re wild, fearless, strong and oh so mysterious. The jingle jangle of spurs does wicked things to my heart.

Just wanted to stop in and say Great interview–I haven’t read any of Carr’s books, but I enjoyed reading the responses from the heroes. 🙂 Might have to look into the books…

There are a few rodeo shows around here in the Spring and Summer but I’ve never actually watched one. I’ve sen them in passing and it sounds both scary and exciting.
Some reasons I like bull riders are hard, chiseled muscles, chaps, spurs, fearless. I could go on and on.
These books sound amazing. Can’t wait to read them.

I am sort of against bull riding and rodeo’s. I always feel like the things are getting hurt. I’m not experienced so I don’t really know. But my favorite spring sport is definitely baseball.
Thank you TBQ =) I agree LunaZega! NA – Rodeos are exciting, there is that element of danger, but the cowboys know what they are doing. Joanne – I agree.
Lauren – I LOVE baseball too! Here is my two cents as far as rodeos go – I grew up raising animals and in 4H. Many people feel the same way you do, people who aren’t around rodeos would be surprised at how cherished and well taken care of the livestock is. They are fed top quality food, have all the best medical care and kept in premium conditions, like air conditioned horse trailers for travel and temperature controlled stalls/barns. Many times livestock has better living conditions than their human. Is there abuse, I am sure, unfortunately that happens everywhere, even with domesticated animals, we just have to pray the bad guys are caught and punished. And yes I am one of those people who cannot watch the SPCA commercials because they break my heart, I can’t even hear the song In The Arms of an Angel on the radio, I have to turn it. I also only adopt dogs from shelters/rescue organizations, my current furbabies are both rescue mutts and I wouldn’t change them for the world =) P.S. I am so glad you feel comfortable enough with GP to be able to post your honest feelings, it makes me feel good! AND Please don’t take this as me trying to change your mind or say your opinion is wrong, because we all have the right to our opinions and I value all of the GP readers opinions.

I love watching all the bulls…they’re so mean!!! Plus the bull riders never are as hot as Brady and Conner…so I gotta watch something! Lol. I have fun going to the PBR competition every year:)

My favorite spring sport is rodeo. I’m not particularly into the bulls, all bucking stock works for me and I like to watch and barrel racing too.

Ok, here goes sounding like a negative nelly! I hate organized sports. There, I said it. As far as the rodeo and bull riding goes, I tuned in to one of the big name televised events and the FIRST thing I saw was a rider get stomped by a bull after getting thrown. ACKKKKKK!!! I had heart palpitations for days. I still have trouble thinking about it. So, I will stick to bull riding in my fiction and then I can make it all clean and pretty and not dangerous in my mind. My favorite spring sport? This is probably more of a summer sport, but I’d say swimming. I dated a swimmer in high school–he had those gorgeous “butterfly” muscles (that they get from doing the butterfly stroke). YUM.

My favorite is football. My husband and I can’t wait for football season to start but it isn’t in Spring.
I love to read Westerns, especially about rodeo cowboys. I live in Reno, NV and am ashamed to say I have never been to a rodeo, not even the world famous Reno Rodeo. My husband is just not interested in gong with me and my kids are little. Oh…some day I’ll make it! After all it is the start Cowboy Christmas. Let me know ladies if anyone wants to join me!

Hey everybody! It turns out I didn’t have access to the Internet this weekend – eep. I went on a writing retreat and just assumed it would be there.
Anyway, thank you so much for your fun comments! Conner and Brady were two of my most favorite heroes to write, and I hope you all like Marco too. His book, Momentum, is coming in summer 2012.
As far as the conditions for the bulls, I have to agree with what was said above. They’re treated very well, especially since a top bull can make his owner a few million dollars a year.
