AN EMOTIONALLY GRIPPING NOVEL!!!! Before you read this book you will need to a box of tissues and pick out a light hearted, fluffy book to read immediately after.
“KADEN’S DYING” two of the most haunting words I’ve ever read in a novel…….
Summary:Sometimes, love hurts…if you’re lucky.
How can you refuse when a dying friend asks you for the biggest favor of all? Kaden and Seth have been best friends for over forty years. So when Kaden confesses not only that he’s dying, but that he wants Seth to take over as his wife’s Dom in their BDSM relationship, it rocks his world.
Seth has always seen himself as the perpetual screw-up and Kaden as the strong and steady one. To find out he is the only one Kaden trusts to protect and care for his wife, Leah, is a shock.
Now Seth finds himself immersed in a role he’s far from comfortable with—inflicting pain to provide emotional comfort for the woman he’s secretly loved for years. Can he deal with his crushing grief and learn the skills he must master in time to become THE RELUCTANT DOM?
A friend of mine suggested I read TRD, I kept putting it off because, well I’m a wimp, I don’t handle sad movies or books well, AT ALL. On top of my normal wimpiness, I have a beloved family member who has been battling cancer for 17 yrs, had a stem cell transplant three years ago and her body is rejecting the transplant and the cancer keeps coming back, so I felt TRD would cause me to be extra wimpy. As a side note, BDSM books who’s main focus is pain for the sake of being able to feel emotions are not my cuppa, but the story and how well it’s written made the pain side of the story secondary for me. I am so glad my friend finally wore me down withe her high praise for TRD. Don’t get me wrong my “wimpiness” was out in full force during and after reading TRD, but it is such a BEAUTIFUL, HEARTWRENCHING story. I don’t regret reading it at all.
The love Kaden had for Leah is incredible, he put her first always, even when he was in pain and in his last days. The struggle Seth had with the situation and Leah’s strength fighting her fears of life without Kaden and learning to trust Seth to be able to handle her needs were so emotional and intense. The Christmas scene had me a basket case. Everything that Kaden set up for Seth and Leah after his death…WOW!!! I can’t even think about it without tearing up.
You’ve read my vague review (intentionally vague to avoid spoilers) and WHY would you WANT to read a book that is going to run you through the emotional ringer? Because TRD is not a story only about death, it is a freaking BEAUTIFUL story about LOVING someone so much, you selflessly do whatever it takes to make sure they are secure and LOVED once you are gone.
This book is a keeper, I don’t know if I will be able to emotionally handle reading it again for a long time BUT I recommend everyone read it at least once.
DiDi gives The Reluctant Dom
I’m the friend who recommended it to Naughty D… and aren’t you SOOOO glad I kept insisting you read it?
This is probably hands-down the most emotional book I’ve EVER read. At least it’s the only book that had me literally sobbing out loud.
And it’s not ALL sad. I cried too at the legacy Kaden left for Leah and Seth. I can only hope to meet someone, someday who will love me with a teeny portion of the love Kaden has for Leah. Sigh!
