What a Woman Gets by Judi Fennell and is another fun and flirty adventure in the Manley Maids series. Would you mind if the new maid was a hot and handsome man? I definitely wouldn’t mind one bit. That is the surprise that Cassidy Davenport when she opened the door and found Liam Manley as her new maid. Liam isn’t going to renege on his lost bet, so he’s been assigned to clean the penthouse condo of one very rich socialite, and he isn’t too happy about it. He knows their type because he once dated a shallow rich girl. Therefore he is not going to make the same mistake and get involved with Ms. Davenport, even if she is the hottest and sexiest thing he’s seen in quite some time.
I have to say right off the bat that I was not in love with Cassidy because she really was clueless in the beginning. Not to have a backup plan or contingency money before she confronted her father was just plain stupid. But then there wouldn’t be a story if Liam didn’t come to the rescue. What eventually got me to like Cassidy is her resolve to not quit or give up on herself. She did not throw a fit when her plans went sour, but rolled with the punches, and made the best of it. I did like how she was not helpless or tried to take advantage of Liam. Cassidy fought her attraction to Liam because it wasn’t the time to get involved with the man. For the majority of the book you got to know Cassidy and how she got to be where she is today.
Liam was burned once and is now twice shy. He had a preconceived idea about Cassidy and did not want another reminder of his last girlfriend. Liam had worked hard to get his business where it is today and wanted a woman to want him for himself and not his money. He couldn’t help but notice that Cassidy was sexy and beautiful, and he too fought the attraction. When he turns the tables on Cassidy and she now becomes his maid, he pulls no punches on what he wants from the relationship. He is just continually surprised when she doesn’t do or say what he expects her to. Liam learned to stop judging Cassidy like she was going to be exactly like Rachel, his ex, and take Cassidy at face value. I’m glad that they didn’t jump into the hay right away and got to know the other before they took on a physical relationship.
Liam and Cassidy were perfect for one another because they found someone that loves them for who they are and not what they have or do. It took some time and plenty of resistance, but in the end Ms. Fennell shows us that all types can fall for one another. Liam and Cassidy found they had more in common and would definitely complement one another with their business savvy and work ethics. I like that these stories are happening simultaneously because you get glimpses of the other brothers and their sister Mac. The author also did not tie up loose ends, but gave a glimpse of hope for Cassidy and her mother. Overall it was a fast, enjoyable, and easy read. I can’t wait to read Mac’s book because then some answers might actually be revealed.
