Levi Grainger needs a break. As a reality show star, he’s had enough of the spotlight and being edited into a walking stereotype. When he returns home after the last season of Trip League, he expects to spend time with his family, only to learn his sister is coming back from her deployment in a flag-draped casket. Devastated, Levi decides the best way to grieve will be to go off grid and hike the Appalachian Trail—a trip he’d planned to do with his sister.

His solitary existence on the trail is interrupted when he meets Thad, a quiet man with a hard body and intense eyes. Their connection is stronger than anything Levi has ever experienced. But when Levi discovers the truth about what Thad is hiking to escape, their future together looks uncertain, and uncertainty is the last thing Levi needs…

I think Overexposed may be my favorite Megan Erickson book to date and that’s saying a lot purestdelightawardbecause I have LOVED a lot of her books, but there was something just more about this book. These characters grabbed my heart, the emotions I had while reading it were plentiful and real, and this couple’s journey was complex, raw and hopeful. Two characters on a journey of a lifetime both literally and figuratively find each other, discover more about themselves than they ever expected, and realize they are both stronger than they ever imagined. This book is everything I love about the new adult gay genre and it is quite simply a perfect romance.

Following a stint of a reality television show that made him somewhat famous, Levi Grainger is walking the Appalachian Trail and hoping to get some answers as to what to do with the rest of his life. While he feels he’s pretty well prepared for the trip, he didn’t expect the loneliness he feels. One moonlit night he meets Thad Connors and despite the fact Thad is not the chatty sort he made Levi feel less lonely and although he hates to admit it, safe. Along the way they have their ups and downs; Thad is stoic and very closed off and this frustrates the very open and talkative Levi. Both these young men are dealing with tragedy and loss so emotions are high, but both men are able to leave the pressures of their lives and just be and it is exactly what they both need.

I enjoyed the easy way these two fell into a friendship and how much they both seemed to need each other’s presence and while their friendship turned into a physical relationship it was so much more despite the fact neither one had brought up what would happen after the trail.

Heart-warming yet gut-wrenching, sweet yet sexy, and funny yet so emotional I loved every minute of Overexposed and author Megan Erickson has once again blown me away with her writing prowess.
