These two people were good together, the sex was steamy, the emotions real, and I enjoyed this quick little story. ~ Leigh, Guilty Pleasures

Thanksgiving arrives in one week and one day. Feeling hemmed in by parental expectations? Are they disappointed by your sapphic proclivities? I can help! The only pay I want is the holiday meal!

I didn’t know what I was looking for until I saw her Craigslist ad.

I love my family. I’m lucky to have them—well, most of them. But my aunt? I’m so tired of her giving my mom crap because I happen to be a lesbian. So one pink-haired tattoo artist pretending to be my girlfriend will annoy my Christian fundamentalist aunt right back and make my Thanksgiving perfect.

Only . . . Brooke turns out to be cuter and more complicated than I expected. And before you can say “yorkiepoo,” we kiss . . . and abduct a dog together. I want to keep them both—but Brooke isn’t the kind to be kept. Lucky for me, I’m the kind to chase what I want.

Take Me Home was a cute and touching story about a woman finding love when she was least expecting it and another giving love a chance when she was thought she wasn’t ready. It was sweet without being saccharine and I adored both these women and rooted for them to work out their issues.

The book itself is actually more of a novella, but what really stood out for me was that for such a short story, the feelings and romance didn’t feel forced. It flowed naturally and I felt the attraction between these two, as well as the confusion over the emotions that one character was not ready to experience. The only part I found lacking was that I would have liked to gain a better understanding of Keighley’s background. She always alluded to the fact that she was awkward or that she rushed relationships, but I never felt as if I got a good picture of her. She seemed like a level headed and normal (if somewhat needy) woman, who was just looking for love and acceptance. She was caring, an animal lover (which is always a plus in my book), and had the support of most of her family, but the person that seemed to be the hardest on her was herself.

Brooke, on the other hand, I could envision perfectly. She was independent and quirky and had a mouth on her that cracked me up. She had a tough exterior and a good heart that she was fiercely protecting. These two people were good together, the sex was steamy, and I enjoyed this quick little story.

Although the second story in a series, the correlation to the first book was only a loose association to a tattoo parlor where Brooke worked. This could absolutely be read as a stand-alone, although the first book, Far From Home, was just as thoughtful, touching and well written that it is certainly worth the read.

Lorelie Brown’s writing style is beautiful and pulls you into the lives of her characters. I just can’t wait to see what she has in store for the third installment.
