Summary: Tobias and Noah explore their relationships more deeply than they ever have, not just with their own dominance and submission, but with their friends. As Noah helps Tobias through the loss of someone dear, he finds Tobias helping him, too, leading him through some intense sexual games, breaking down the last of Noah’s fears, and helping him face his biggest one. The cage.

Meanwhile, Tobias’ ex-lover, Phantom, becomes close friends with Noah as they discover and try to resist the simmering sexual tension between them. Their teasing turns to real support when Phantom reaches the breaking point thanks to the lack of a master in his life, something he desperately needs.

While Bradford works to become that master, Tobias and Noah go to Paris, where they see the sights, go to sex clubs, and re-negotiate their contract. Returning from Paris to their own lives brings then all sorts of new difficulties, from deciding whether they should love together to trying to figure out just where Phantom belongs in their ever-changing relationship.

Deviations: Discipline is the third book in the popular Deviations series, which begins with Deviations: Submission, and Deviations: Dominance. Chris Owen and Jodi Payne have another winner on their hands, a gripping, emotional tale that you won’t want to miss!

Becky’s Review: Now that Tobias and Noah are not only Master and sub, but also lovers in every sense of the word, it’s time to make the distinction between those two relationships. Tobias feels he has become too comfortable with Noah and isn’t testing his limits. Readers of the previous books in this series know Noah has a problem with cages. As the back story is told we realize that it is about more than just a cage, it’s about trust.
Tobias realizes that Noah will never truly trust him until he can conquer his fear of the cage, so he sets about getting Noah through this truly terrifying boundary. Ms. Owen and Ms. Payne brought the need for this step to light for me in a way I didn’t realize was so essential to the story.
Meanwhile, Phantom is in a downward spiral due to the lack of a master in his life. Bradford attempts to fill that role for him but we can see this just isn’t going to work. Bradford doesn’t love Phan in a romantic or sexual way but he does care for the young man. Tobias still loves Phan, not the same way he loves Noah, but enough that it is becoming a barrier for the deepening of Noah’s place in Tobias’ life.
Tobias takes Noah to Paris, where they sample truly decadent sex clubs and scenes. Noah is in heaven but the purpose of the trip is to write a contract that is essentially a marriage agreement between the two men. The discussion of the contract is fascinating. It is clear that Phan is going to have some kind of place in their lives when Tobias tells Noah that when Noah moves in with Tobias in a new home they plan to build, Phan will retain ownership of the residence where Tobias has been living. This doesn’t make Noah happy but because it is a need Tobias feels deeply, Noah has to accept it as part of his service to Tobias.
The ending of the book is a bit of a cliffhanger for the next book. Stay tuned!
