Summary:
Lalita Chetana, daughter of a United Nations Diplomat, survives an attempted kidnapping by a terrorist group known as the anarchists. She has a difficult time with her recovery, and her father hires two bodyguards, ex-Marines Asher Epson and Kent Warne, to keep her safe and give her time to heal. Unfortunately, even their skills can’t save her from an enemy determined to destroy her.

Hypnotized into stealing UN secrets, she is framed by the anarchists. As part of their plan to humiliate and break her father, they plant a hypnotic trigger that anytime she hears the word “bitch” she will become aroused to the point of pain. She is forced to flee and go into hiding with Asher and Kent. The men become unable to hide their real feelings for her after her trigger is hit and they have to relieve her of her sexual torment.

Warning: This book contains hot, dominant men who will do anything to please their lady including light bondage, spanking, public caning, and decadent ménages.

Becky’s Review:
What an exciting story! From start to finish, Ann Mayburn’s The Bodyguards’ Princess is an erotic ménage romance with aspects of BDSM and at the same time it is a thrilling spy novel. Almost nothing in this story can be called “ordinary”. Ms. Mayburn is a creative writer who establishes as her main characters a Goth daughter of a diplomat and two disgraced former Marines, hired to be the daughter’s bodyguards.

The book sets off with an attempted kidnapping that is dramatic and terrifying. Beginning with the first paragraph I was unable to put this book down. The bodyguards, Asher and Kent, avoid a second kidnapping, this time by the police, by running away with Lalita and thus begins a game of cat and mouse between the “anarchists” (terrorists) and Asher, Kent and Lalita.

Along the way we learn the secret behind Asher and Kent’s partnership that is more than a professional joint venture. Lalita has been infatuated with the two men for a long time and believed the feeling was not returned so her discovery that the men had been married was a shock. It’s not all rainbows and ponies for the three lovers. The have their jealousies and spats, sometimes over trivial things and at least once over something so big it threatens to destroy their future together. There is no way a submissive and two dominants could build a relationship without hitting a rocky spot or three, so this is a bit of reality that is often left out of ménage stories.

The secondary characters, including the villains and a transvestite and his wife who play in the BDSM lifestyle, are all well developed and sometimes cast against type. The role played by Blondie, the trannie, takes an interesting turn toward the end of the book.

The plot flows like a river at flood level. This is a fast paced story that spins, dips and rolls, and ultimately carries the reader forward toward a finale that is so exciting I was breathless by the time I finished the book. There were a couple of occasions that I had to backtrack to find out how we got to a particular place in the story because it moved so fast that the details were a blur going by. Nothing was left out and a second look picked up the elements I missed the first time.

I really enjoyed Ms. Mayburn’s writing style and this story in particular. I will be raiding Ms. Mayburn’s backlist to buy and read more of her books. Perhaps I’ll share my reviews of them with you here on the blog if you beg nicely.
