I Vant to SUCK….

OK, I couldn’t make myself type blood.  But there are other words that work great there…dontcha’ think?

FYI….I’m not going to go into the history of vampirism, it’s long, gory and full of myths, controversy and multiple origins. This is for fun, not for someone to start thumping their Bible and screaming at me that vampires are demons.

Vampires, the Un-Dead, Night Walkers…doesn’t matter what names these mysterious men are called….I LOVE them ALL…and I don’t just love them because of Twilight, although Edward could bite me and break my headboard any day! My love for vampires goes back to my childhood days, I’m not sure who was my first vampire love…Count Chocula, Granpa Munster or the Count from Sesame Street, but they are the earliest vampires I can remember being in love with.

So what is it that makes this grown woman, and many more, lust after vampires….specifically Edward, Damon, JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds, Lynsay Sands’ Argeneaus and Kerrelyn Sparks’ Love at Stake Vampires. For me, in general, it’s the Hollywood/Fictionalized stereotypes – dark mesmerizing eyes, the stamina, the mystery, the bodies (oooh the bodies), immortality, that by being changed to vampire your body reaches it’s most fit level, bonding for life and the fact that my neck is my “git’r’dun” zone.

Modern Day Vampires

I totally love the creative freedom that paranormal romance authors have taken with the origins of vampires.

A few years ago I got back into reading after watching Twilight with my daughter.  I went on a hunt for ADULT vampire romances, I came across TONS of vampire series, tried to keep up with them but ended up being overwhelmed by the sheer number of series.  So I picked my favorites and decided to stick with following them.   Here are my top of the top favorite vampire series:

Love At Stake by Kerrelyn Sparks
The Love At Stake series is one of my favorites.  These books are humorous, sexy and fun.  I love they creativity of the series, the Vampire Fusion Cusine, with items such as Bleer, Blissky and Chocoblood.  There is never a dull moment in these books.  And Kerrelyn has all kinds of sexy heros..there are even Highland Vampires and some shifters.   And I really like that Romantech Industries, where they mostly all work, is working on ways for vamps to have babies.

Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward
J.R. Ward has created some of the biggest, baddest, sexiest, kick ass vampires, oh did I mention they are hip as well?  The Black Dagger Brotherhood has their own language, their own rules and pity the fool who crosses them or theirs and ENVY the BITCH that is bonded to one.   This series is darker, violent but still funny as hell!!!  A must read for vampire romance fans!  AND WHO ISN’T CHOMPIN AT THE BIT for Quinn and Blay’s story???  Good GAWD they are HOTTTT!!!

The Argeneaus by Lynsay Sands
I have to say the origins of Vampires in the Argeneau series is my favorite.  They aren’t vampires for any dark, demonic reason, they are a result of a medical experiment that wasn’t completely finished when Atlantis fell.  There are family dynamics, mystery, action and lots of humor in this series.  The vampires can pro-create but only every 100 years.

I can only make this post so long, because unlike the sexy vampires, we are not immortal, well until we find our own sexy vampire, but anyways, here are more series I keep up with: Midnight Breeds by Lara Adrian The Primes by Susan Sizemore Demonica Series by Larissa Ione Guardians  of Eternity by Alexandra Ivy and The Twilight Series by Maggie Shayne.

I would most likely have holy water thrown on me and be staked through the heart if I failed to bring up The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyers.  YES I am a TWI-MOM…but “gasp” I never read the books, just went to Twilight with my daughter as a mother/daughter outing and became hooked on the movies.   I couldn’t get into the books, because, well I have a problem reading first person, it just doesn’t work for me.  BUT you can bet your sweet coffin my big ol’ booty is at the midnight showing of each movie release!!!!  And I am TOTALLY TEAM EDWARD!!!  I leave the mangy beast to BeckyC..she’s a fur lover.

NOW that I have shared some of my vampire addiction….I would LOVE to know what vampire romances do you love?  Why do you love them? Are you Team FANG or Team FUR?  Who is your all time favorite vampire?  Come on tell me..if not I may have to get someone read your mind……

Don’t forget to check us out daily during the month of October we will be reviewing various paranormal books throughout the month in honor of all things Halloween.!!!

TROUBLE LEAVING A COMMENT? It has been reported that some followers cannot leave a comment. Here is what we have found out in the past: Are you on internet explorer? people on IE have that problem, some click several times and it finally works or they leave as anonymous, but put their name in the post. We can’t figure out why IE users have problems, google chrome or firefox users don’t have any trouble.

  1. I haven’t read many vampire romances but I love J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood! The Brothers are so delicious! Zsadist is my favorite, but I love V and Butch too. And then there is Rhev who isn’t a Brother, but is just like them, love him too!

You looked at my bookshelf didn’t you lol! I love the authors you picked. I have tried to read the twilight series but just couldn’t do it. I haven’t watched the movies either, I think because I didn’t like the book I didn’t want to try the movies.

  3. I LOVE J.R. Ward the following is what she just posted on her facebook:
“O.M.G……… the next hardcover BDB book after Tohr has just been decided upon- and I’m not allowed to announce until the spring (please please PLEASE someone ask me that first at the Cinci signing????) but all I can say is my editor, my publisher… are the SH*T!!!!!!

  4. Angela Z is my favorite too!! Thanks K. Christy I really enjoyed the movies…the second movie not as much as the first and third. Thanks for stopping by! Please pass this blog on to your vampire loving friends. If you have shifter friends let them know about BeckyC’s shifter blog from yesterday!

  5. Bonnie was having technical difficulties posting this so she emailed me. Here is her response:

D, I tried three times to post comments on your vampire article at Book Pimps but I would hit the wrong key and it would disappear and I’d have to start over. The one time I did get my comments typed, I hit preview and they disappeared. I finally gave up, so here are my comments:

Wrath is my favorite and his been since before I got to page three of “Dark Lover.” Number two is Raphael from “Raphael” by DB Reynolds. I love her Vampires in America Series. My number three right how is Bones from the Night Huntress series, but I’m only on book 2. If Chapter 32 is as good as everyone says, I may have to make Bones my number 2.

I think the werewolves are the best part of Twilight. Sorry, D, but Edward is not what I think of when I think of vampires, and Bella drives me crazy with her clingy whininess. When I think of vampires, I think of power, and I don’t get the feeling of power from Edward. I think it is power that draws me to the vampire legend.

  6. Bonnie..I can see where Edward(Robert) doesn’t fit the image, he doesn’t match my vision of a vampire that I get from romance novels, but I do like him better than Jacob =) Thanks for stopping by!!

  7. Though it’s not really romance, my favorite would be the Sookie Stackhouse series. I don’t have as much love for vamps as I do for other paranormal beings, but there’s something about Eric Northman that makes me melt. (However, I’m totally Team Alcide.)

  8. I’m a huge vampire lover… My love affair started with Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles… I could not get enough of Lestat! I was pretty sure he’d be the hottest lover ever, but Anne killed the “sex” angle with her vamps.

Then I discovered Christine Feehan’s Dark series and wham! Love!

Now I write my own vampire lore and I’m having such a blast with these dangerous immortal blood drinkers who could kill you, but the choose to love you instead… *swoon*

    Great post!

    Lisa 🙂
