St Patricks Day Tradition

I have a lovely friend, Christine. She’s Irish, her husband is Colombian, and the two of them together are a lot like Lucy and Ricki Ricardo (Younger readers may have to Google the I Love Lucy show to get that reference! LOL)

Anyway, every year, Christine throws a big St. Patrick’s Day party. Once you’ve been invited, it’s an open invitation for life. Doesn’t matter what day of the week the holiday falls on, you can be sure there will be a party at her house and it goes into the wee hours of the morning. Her girls took Irish Step Dancing classes so in past years there was a performance by her daughters and their classmates. Her Irish priest always stops by and sings Danny Boy and a few other songs. I’ve even performed some Irish harp songs during the party, and my harp teacher has sat in and played with me. The fare is pot luck, but you can always count on Christine providing her signature dishes, Ham, Cocktail Meatballs (I have the secret recipe for the sauce on those!), beer, and homemade Irish Coffee (made from simple syrup, whipped cream and of course good old Irish whiskey).

It’s a great annual tradition to don something green (you have to wear your green!) and even better to see old friends who we sometimes only see there and then.

Slainte! (That’s Irish for Cheers!)

Do you have any St. Patrick’s Day traditions?
Cat will be giving away a digital copy of Bobby (Red, White and Blue #6) to one LUCKY commenter. Winner will be selected 3/17/12, using random.org

Read Lee’s Review of Bobby

Description:
“When the reality TV cameras stop rolling, things really start to heat up. “

Deputy Sheriff Bobby Barton agrees to put up with a reality TV show in his town for two reasons: it’ll be good for local business, and the producers promise to keep out of his. Except the show keeps creeping into his personal life. Plus, against his better judgment, he finds himself hoping that the show’s assistant producer, Christy Dunne, will creep into his bed.

Christy never mixed business with pleasure, but Bobby has her breaking all her own rules. When she makes a decision that can cost her job, suddenly she’s scrambling to keep her career from crashing. Though landing in Bobby’s bed might make it worth all the uproar.

With cameras all over town, a meddling executive producer manipulating everyone’s lives, their own scruples getting in the way, and the show’s deadline looming, Bobby and Christy can’t think about love.

Then again, how can they not?

“This book has been previously published and has been revised from its original release. “

Warning: Contains one sexy, brooding, overprotective officer of the law who uses his handcuffs for more than catching criminals.

  1. No real St Pattie’s Day traditions, though I do come from Chicago, and we die the river green. This year my son will be running in his first 5K on St Patrick’s Day and we are really looking forward to watching him run

  2. I’m probably 50% Irish biologically, but since my mom’;s adopted we’re not 100% sure, but I don’t really do anything other than make corned beef and cabbage just cause it tasty. I buy several while they’re on sale now and have corned beef every 3 or so months.

  3. March 17 happens to be my saint’s
day & usually we celebrate with a
special meal. Even if it’s just
    Honey & I. This year we’re going
out & family who are able to will
join us. I think it is really neat
that the world celebrates my day,
even having parades in some cities!
    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  4. I have no St. Paddy’s Day traditions. I have had green beer and green bagels. The beer was okay, same as regular beer, but I had a problem with the green bagels. I know they were the same as the normal colored ones but they gave me the creeps.

  5. My tradition is to celebrate my birthday. Also, wearing green. When I was growing up that was one of my birthday gifts a something to wear in green that I got to open the day before.

  6. Since my boys were born on St Patrick’s Day, decorations go up the first of March. Lots of shamrock items that I’ve collected over the years, though I’ve toned down the Irish Pub theme this year, lol. Then it’s a big family birthday party with corned beef and cabbage.

My boy’s always get Scratchers and Lotto tickets every year, with the thought that you can’t get much luckier that being a St Paddy’s Day baby. So far, that pot of gold remains illusive.

  7. I come from a long line of Scottish ancestery but we never failed to celebrate St Patty’s day in style, green beer, corned beef and dancing…of course!
So happy Bobby’s story is finally coming out. I’ve been waiting for it!

  8. I was determined to learn how to make Corned Beef this year. I even taped the episode of Rachel Ray’s show. Sadly, my week has exploded (or more accurately, my main drain has exploded!) so no corned beef this year. Oh well, there’s always next year…. I just love your Red, White and Blue series. They are good, quick reads.

I am the only person who likes corned beef and cabbage so I try to find it at a local restaurant. I always wear something green. I don’t drink alcohol so green beer is off the menu.

  10. I wear green and have my corned beef and cabbage and read a story plotted in Ireland. Nothing too impressive!

The story sounds fun. Thanks for sharing the blurb and giveaway opportunity!

  11. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in our family. We start at 6:00 am by setting up for the parade. We have bathroom set up, table full of goodies that everyone brings, and BEER!!! Juice for the kiddos. The parade starts at 10:00. We stay there until it is done, then go to my in-laws for corn beef and hash. The kids stay with grandma and the rest of us start the pub crawl. It gets a little rawdy, but all have a good time.

  12. Well of course in our family you have to wear something Green. For a lot of years we celebrated at a friend Irish Pub.. Now it is the next generation doing the celebrating.. I have not been there in about 7 or 8 years, as I live out of town now. But this year I am going to drop in, as I will be in the nieghbourhood. My nieces will be there and their friends. I will stop in to say hello and have a drink with them. And then I am going to another St. Patrick’s Day function with my friends.. And that is how it should be…

We don’t really have any traditions that we do other than the wearing green like everyone else. Thanks for the giveaway!

  14. Well, 17th March happens to be also my birthday – and in a country where we have very few Irish immigrants, I could never really find so many enthusiasts of Saint Patrick`s as me. So my tradition was always try to bring St. Patrick`s day into my birthday party – people often wouldn’t understand why we had green food (even a green cake) at the table and why I would always dress in green and give shamrocks to every guest, but eventually everybody catch up with the spirit of the celebration. In the past few years, an authentic Irish pub opened in my town, and they throw a huge party to celebrate the day, so my new tradition is to celebrate my birthday there now. So that`s it, my big St Patrick`s tradition was always celebrate my birthday celebrating the day itself – and by that, always trying always to bring the St. Patrick`s Day to Brazil!

  15. No real traditions…however, when I used to work downtown, ensured I wore green, ate the traditional corned beef and cabbage for lunch and saved some time attend the parade.

  16. My St. Patrick’s tradition includes watching QVC’s St. Paddy’s Day programing. I love the accents and it’s always interesting. Other than that I don’t have any real traditions.

  17. I usually cook something to celebrate the holiday – corned beef and cabbage with potaotes and carrots, or just even an irish soda bread. Depends on the year.

  18. Hi Cat,
    Happy St. Paddy’s day.

we usually don’t do alot here, watch a few movie or sports. if i am reeeally luck my favorite movie will be on “The Quiet Man” starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. it was actually set in Ireland and as far as i know is the only movie he made that was not a western. i love it, in my opinion it gives you a glimpse of the real man and not just the actor. plus Maureen O’Hara was so beautiful and together they just blew Brad and Angelina out of the water. LOL! (IMHO)
