Description:

Pulling off the ultimate con…if they can keep from pulling off their clothes.

Keely McKay knows Jack—and Jack Donohue is a certified pain in her Wranglers. The lone girl in the prolific McKay family, Keely needs another man giving her orders like she needs a hole in her boot. What she does need is a restoration specialist so she can open her physical therapy clinic—and prove she’s left her wild-child days behind. That means dealing with buttoned-down, uptight Jack.

Jack is this close to securing a career make-or-break project, until he learns his lack of marital status puts him out of contention. When the notoriously hot-tempered and hot-bodied Keely begs him for help, he proposes a crazy idea. He’ll oversee her project—if she acts the part of his loving fiancée.

Their sizzling lust makes it all too easy to go from butting heads to knocking boots—but outside the bedroom they’re as mismatched as ever. The McKays remind Jack of the humble upbringing he left behind, and cowgirl Keely feels she doesn’t measure up to Jack’s big-city lifestyle.

When the dust settles, Jack and Keely must face the fact they’re not fooling anyone but themselves—or they’ll risk losing the real deal.

Product Warnings
This book contains one hot-blooded cowgirl and one cool-headed businessman in a stripped-down, revved-up game of sexual truth or dare.

Slick’s Thoughts:
I am thrilled to be reviewing All Jacked Up, book 8 in Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series (although technically it’s book 9). This is the story of McKay former “wild child” Keely McKay and Mr. GQ, Jack Donohue. Keely came barreling on the scene in book one, Long, Hard Ride. From the minute she entered you just know that when her story comes around it’s going to be a great one. We first met Jack in book 2, Rode Hard, Put Up Wet. Jack is best friends with Keely’s older brother, Carter. Jack and Keely have had a very volatile relationship for almost a decade. When Keely buys a building that needs a Western Restoration specialist she contacts Full Circle Consulting not realizing its Jack’s company. From the minute he walks into her building they start trading barbs and you just know this is going to be a book like no other in the series. At first Jack intends to turn her down but then he realizes that she can help him out by pretending to be his fiancée so that he can get a contract he’s in the running for. Trouble is, they have to convince her well meaning but over bearing family that they really are in “wuv, true, wuv.” Considering they have been at each other’s throats for years especially after an unfortunate incident at a family wedding, they have their work cut out for them. In addition to Keely’s family, they face many obstacles in route to their HEA, including Jack’s brother and Jack’s ex-girlfriend, who puts Keely in a very un-Keely like position.

What I love most about this book is the sharp wit both Keely and Jack display. They are forever going at it (both verbally and sexually) and it makes for a great story. Keely and Jack both have very strong personalities and both refuse to apologize for their sexual pasts or appetites. Keely has had her share of lovers and admits to Jack that her relationships don’t last long because she gets bored with them. Jack decides he’s going to keep Keely off balance so she’s never bored. The sex scenes between these two are hot enough to make your e-reader catch fire and disintegrate.

I thoroughly enjoyed All Jacked Up. It was pretty different from the other Rough Riders books and that’s not a bad thing. The verbal sparring made me laugh, the love scenes were hot, and two people finding out that they aren’t so completely different was entertaining. All in all I give All Jacked Up 4.5 stars and highly recommend it.

By the way one of my favorite exchanges between Jack and Keely:
“If Jack thought his heart was racing from the adrenaline rush of fear, it was flat lined compared to how it pounded being this close to Keely. For the first time in weeks. The cast iron frying pan hit the floor with a thud and Keely launched herself at him. “Jack, you sneaky bastard.” “Keely, you psycho redneck.” Then her mouth was on his making a mockery of every passionate kiss they’d shared before that moment. When she twined herself around him, as if to climb inside his skin, Jack actually believed she might love him.” SIGH!!

  1. All Jacked Up is my favorite RR book. I have loved Keely since book one…I love how she has helped all her brothers in some way during their stories.

  2. I just finished book 3 this series and I cannot wait to get reading this one… I have liked Keeley from the very beginning. She is a real kick ass kind of girl…

  3. Keely and Jack were meant to be. They are one of my favorite Rough Rider couples, but I think I say that about every book. I particularly love the end and what her brothers do to ‘protect’ their little sister. It’s must read.

  4. Kelley and Jack certainly were a pair. Lorelei has written one heck of a series. It is amazing, how she keeps all the characters straight. I’ll have to do a reread of the series.

I have just finished reading Colt’s story and it is my favorite so far. I am about to start Cam’s story and I can’t wait to get to Keely’s story. I can’t believe I didn’t start this series sooner!
