Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall?

I have a confession to make. Spring is my least favorite season. Sure I love warm days filled with flowers as much as the next person, it’s just not my personal favorite. I’m an autumn girl at heart. The rich colors of fall as the leaves turn the from emerald green to ruby red, roaring fires to roast marshmallows over, the crisp smell in the night air, the need to start running the fire place at night—that’s more my preference. I also love the extremes of winter with everything coated in glittery white snow, and the baking heat of summer, filled with endless glasses of iced tea and the scent of BBQ in the air.

Part of it may be that I live in New England. We have amazing fall leaves, sparkling icy winters and summer heat that makes it seem unthinkable that a snow flake ever fell. For us spring is known, affectionately, as “mud season”. Tons of rain. Melt off of the steep piles of snow left behind by winter. It’s messy. It’s buggy. The only thing I like about it is the sense that it’s ushering in a new beginning. New beginnings are always exciting to me. They’re filled with hope and promise. New years. First days of school. Or the spark of a new relationship.

My next release, an erotic romance titled Marry Me, is all about new beginnings. The characters are both pretty convinced that they’ll never fall in love again, until they meet each other. Together they begin again. I love that, and for that reason I’m glad I have a spring release date for this book. It fits. And it’s a reason for me to like spring a little bit more than usual this year.

So, it’s your turn to confess, what’s your LEAST favorite season? Leave your comment below and you’ll have a chance to win not only a digital copy of Marry Me (which is due out in May/June 2012) but also your choice of my previous titles (Always You or Long-Distance Lovers). Winner will be selected using random.org on 4/30. Please fill out the form at the end of this post.

Long Distance Lovers Blurb:
British musician Tim Wentworth trades his London flat for an apartment in NYC so he can record with a promising American band, but he arrives in Manhattan to learn the gig has been canceled. With no job and a two-month stay in the States, he wonders if the trip has been a waste of time, until he meets charming and talented jewelry designer Jenna Bradford.

Unlike the groupies who throw themselves at Tim after shows, Jenna couldn’t be less impressed by his music credentials. Bad experiences have led her to have a strict “no musicians” policy. But when Tim rescues Jenna from an obnoxious drunk, she bends her rules and they embark on a sensuous courtship filled with steamy, passionate nights and intense, unexpected emotions. While they try to find a way to prolong their time together, a family tragedy forces Tim to return to England. Jenna and Tim must each decide how far they’re willing to go to see if their whirlwind romance can lead to a lifetime of love

  1. I think my least favorite season is Summer. It just gets so hot. There’s only so many clothes you can take off and still go outside. Then there are the bugs. Don’t get me started talking about them. There is usually a breeze, but it’s a warm one. I just don’t like Summer.

I’m going to go with Winter which I like but do like the least. It’s pretty mild here but when it snows it’s BRRR! I feel like a marshmallow and plus the days are shorter too.

  3. Winter is my least favorite. I don’t like to shovel snow or drive in it. And the cold temps are draining on the electric bill. But we had a mild winter this year. I think I can get use to loving it now 🙂

  4. I detest summer. Absolutely HATE it. I lived in the arctic for way too long. Once the temperatures here in the Ozarks get above 70, I’m miserable. Now, summers do gain appeal once I’m back in Alaska fishing.

  5. Thanks for a fun post! It’s a toss up for me. I live in the midwest so we get extremes, especially hot and cold. I don’t like the humid, blistering summer days but I also don’t like the 30 below w/ a foot of snow either…

  6. My least favorite is summer. It’s too humid for me to enjoy it. When I travel in the summer I never really get to do much because I am miserable. I can’t breathe and feel like there is an elephant sitting on my chest. So I wind up doing indoor things and miss out. Blah!

  7. I love winter — fireplaces, warm sweaters, fluffy socks, etc. In GA, it happens so little that we cherish it. Summer is sweltering and makes me crave winter all the more.

  8. I would have to say Winter, I guess because I have to walk in the snow, slush and the cold… It is miserable to have to go through this every year.. It makes me envy those who live in warm places in the winter…

  9. I think that though I love snow and the holidays and I do like winter, it would still have to be the least favorite for me. I like all the seasons for different reasons, but mostly because I can take being unbearably hot, but when I get bone-marrow-deep cold, I honestly don’t feel good physically and it makes it hard to function and shake the chill when it’s gone all the way to my core.

Summer is my least favorite season. I have pale Irish skin so I have to slather on the spf 100 and wear hats and long sleeves. I get overheated easily too.

  11. My least favorite season is Winter. I do like snow, it looks nice and all, but I really hate driving on ice covered roads, Walking through snow drifts to feed the horses…Mud……Yeah Winter is my least favorite month.
Sounds like a great book. Thanks.

Definitely Winter. Snow looks so pretty when it first falls, but then turns into an unattractive greyish mass in the city. I dislike the icy streets and roads and the difficulty in getting around.

  13. I am not a winter person. I love the snow. It is beautiful! My problem is the cold. It gets in my bones and I can’t shake it. Eventually, it becomes so painful. Not for me.

  14. I don’t hate any particular season. I hate the part of spring, summer and fall when pollen and dust kick up. My allergies are horrible! But I love a sunny day with a light breeze and a little cloud cover. Just wonderful! jepebATverizonDOTnet

  15. I don’t have a least favorite! I love and hate all seasons equally. LOL

Spring is extra light (longer days) and warmer temperatures, but it’s also wind and rain and yardwork.

Summer is lots of daylight, more outdoor time, a sense of lazy days and family/friend camaraderie, even if I don’t actually get to indulge in any. But it’s also unbearable heat and humidity.

Fall is FOOTBALL! And crisp air, transitions, that balance between heat and cold. It’s also too short, and more yardwork.

Winter is sparkle and silence and clean cold. But it’s also mud and ice and darkness.

See? Impossible for me to pick! 🙂

  16. My favorites go in this order: Fall, spring, winter, summer. I don’t do very well in the heat so I have to stay in the air conditioning during the summer months. But I do enjoy being able to sleep in during the summer. lol

  17. I love Spring because the sky is blue, not gray; the temp is just right for being outside; the flowers are beautiful; and the sun is warm so I can curl up outside with a great book and breathe fresh flowers.

  18. I’m going to have to go with Summer being my least favorite month because I live in the central Mid-West and it gets incredibly humid and hot in the summers. I prefer Spring and Fall because the temperatures are really pleasant and the sun is out more. I can tolerate our winters because they are usually not too bad.

  19. Thank you all for stopping by, Karen thank you for a great post!
