Susan Mallery: Seven Things I Love about Spring
7. Longer days. I can’t really say “more sun,” since we don’t see more than mere glimpses of the sun here in Seattle until the summer solstice. But the sun is there, highlighting the gray clouds from behind, and I appreciate the dim light lasting a little longer each day.
6. Fresh, happy colors. I’m talking, of course, about the colors of the new spring collections at the mall.
5. New purse. Otherwise, my new clothes would make my purse look shabby!

4. New haircut. See above.
3. Fresh groom for my dog. Nikki deserves a fresh new look as much as I do. In the spring, her groomer puts on a pretty green bandana with little white flowers. I swear, Nikki prances when she wears it!
2. Cherry blossom trees. I’m an inside girl, so I don’t usually get all quivery about trees. But in the spring here in Seattle, the cherry blossom trees are so breathtaking that even I can appreciate them.
1. Baseball … Just kidding.
The real #1 reason I love Spring? New spring reads. Those I really love. Today, May 1, I have released a Fool’s Gold ebook exclusive novella called ALMOST SUMMER, which will lead up to the release of four brand new Fool’s Gold books in June, July, August, and October.

Why do you Love Spring?
One lucky commenter will win a 2012 Fool’s Gold: Cowboy Country calendar, plus the Fool’s Gold backlist book of the winner’s choice (print and US only).   Winner will be selected using random.org on 5/4.

ALMOST SUMMER Blurb:
Ever since she was young, Paige McLean has longed to see the world. Still, she never imagined the world would land on her doorstep in the form of a charming British surgeon who needs a place to stay when his plans fall through.

After a devastating loss, Alistair Woodbury has vowed to live his life alone. But in all his travels, he hasn’t encountered a town as welcoming as Fool’s Gold, nor a woman as caring – or as beautiful – as Paige. Her compassion warms him almost as much as their stolen kisses.

When it’s Alistair’s time to leave, will his brief visit turn into a lifetime stay?

  1. Great things to love about spring. I would say I love to see all the flowers start to bloom and the smell of the lilacs.

  2. That’s a great you have. The things I love about Spring are the trees budding, flowers blooming, The cool breeze that comes through the house, the new bunnies in my yard, lighter weight clothes, and eating outside on the deck.

  3. Great list!!! I love spring for all those reasons. And also mainly cuz I can finally get the pups out and moving 🙂

I love it when those brown hills around us turn the most beautiful and lush color of green, it makes my heart sing…and of course the wild flowers.

Since I live in Florida, Spring isn’t much different than Winter. I would say I love the fireflies! I love to see them start to buzz about my backyard!

Spring brings showers and flowers… Being from California, we don’t get much rain. So when we do actually get it, it’s a pleasure.

  7. I love your list…especially the one about baseball…I agree! I love spring for the feeling of renewal one gets, a time to start again and succeed!

  8. Love the list! What I love about spring is the blooming of the flowers so I can take my camera out and try to get some great shots!

  9. Shelly, the colors and scents of spring are happy-making, aren’t they? I love when flowers have an aroma that you catch without trying, simply by walking past.

  10. Congratulations to Susan on her new release today! I love Spring because of the longer days, warmer weather and vibrant colors people feel free to wear:)

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  11. Living in Texas, I love the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. Living 15 minutes from Galveston Island I love heading down to walk on the beach or sit and people watch =)

  12. Nikki (that’s my dog’s name! :D) – I’m envious. I have no talent for photography. I know a good picture when I see one, but I can’t seem to take good pics.

  13. Gwen, I get the feeling that you’re *not* kidding about baseball. LOL I said that tongue-in-cheek. I enjoy going to the games with my husband, but I’d never watch baseball on TV on my own. But I do enjoy spring training on QVC. 😉

  14. Thank you, Maria! Release day is always fun and nerve-wracking… and I have four more release days coming up this year! (Four new Fool’s Gold books, starting on May 29 with SUMMER DAYS.) It’s fun to guest blog somewhere, though, and have lovely readers to distract me from my nerves!

  15. I love spring, mostly because of all the bright colors. Looking outside my window now, all the trees are green, the field is full of tiny white blooms from the new grass and I’ve already hung and planted all of my beautiful flowers. I love having NO humidity with the warmth because we all know the summer heat is just around the corner.
Cute list SM and congratulations on your new release.

  16. My favorite thing about spring is like your love of the color and Cherry Blossoms. I love the new flowers blooming and such for a bit but then my allergies snap me back to reality. Oh well, I still like spring.

Best wishes on the new release!

  17. My favorite thing about spring is the light – when spring comes around here the light changes and things are a lot less gloomy :o) Yesterday and today were the first real sunny and warm days we’ve had so far. I love when the sun comes through my living room windows in the afternoons! + Its a lot more cheerful going to work when its light and sunny in the morning :o)

  18. I like the extra energy that comes with the new season after being inside mostly during the winter. Spring Cleaning is a wonderful accomplishment too.

  19. bas1, Noooooooooo, not allergies!!!! The bane of human existence. Sorry that the sniffles spoil your pure enjoyment of the lovely colors of spring.

  20. Goldielocks, Oh, those short, winter days… it’s soooo hard to get out of bed and leave the house when it’s still dark outside. Feels unnatural!

  21. How about things I HATE about Spring? Allergies. Itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, stuffy ears, etc. Yellow pollen covering EVERYTHING–cars, cats, driveways, etc. Humidity and frizzy hair. Mosquitos and no see em biting bugs. Taxes. The busiest time of the year at work. Tourists. Pale skin. Having to shave my legs. UGH…Spring.

  22. I love the weather. After the cold winter conditions and high heating bills it’s a special treat having warm weather.

  23. StacieD

I love the color! After months of gray skies and dead leaves we finally get blooming flowers and blossoming trees. I love it.

  24. Spring means I can turn off the heater and open the windows. I love airing out the house. As an added bonus, my utility bills go down. Yay! jepebATverizonDOTnet

  25. We are traveling to Wenatchee, WA in 2 weeks to see family. We lived in Wenatchee years and years ago. I really miss the apple blossoms and hope we are not to late in the season to see some. They are as wonderful as cherry blossoms, and I’m sure Wenatchee has some of those too.

Just picked up 3 Susan Mallery books for the drive. Hoping hubby will do most of the driving so I can read. I rarely get to sit for long periods of time to read. Can’t wait to read Almost Summer.

  26. I love everything about Spring. I love the colors, the warmth, the ability to air out my house. I love the longer days, the sun, and the dirt.

  27. Spring is the rebirth of the earth. Flowers grow, trees bloom, birds sing a sweet song, and the air smells fresh.. The longer days and the warmer nights…
A few room will be painted and freshened up for Spring. New furniture will arrive and life is good…
I am so Happy Spring is here…finally. Oh and a new haircut too will arrive on Friday…

  28. I like the green grass that comes up through all the brown. You know it’s spring when you see green. Also, the new baby horses and calves.

  29. Kai

I love looking at the trees when the flowers are in bloom. I love looking at the hills when it is so green. Spring brings in new life. I love the baby animals especially the ducklings, puppies and kittens.

  30. I love the blue skies, sunshine and blooming flowers! Sitting outside in the sun, reading a new book and listening to the migrating songbirds is heavenly! 🙂

  31. Spring is like a breath of fresh air after winter. I love to see the flowers blooming, hear the birds chirping & it reminds me of watching one of those video clips of a flower slowly opening up.
