Description:
Bailey Knox knew the good price she paid for her new bar came with consequences, but she didn’t count on nearly getting killed before she could even move into the place, which was also her new home.

Waking up to the two complete strangers who have saved her, she’s alarmed at her overwhelming response to both of them. Marcus Brand and James Archer are different from any men she’s ever met, but she didn’t realize how different. Shape-shifters don’t exist. Then they tell her something even more remarkable. She is their mate.

She fights the emotional pull, even while reveling in the passion that only seems to grow stronger, passion that just can’t be ignored. Neither can the attacks. When black panthers save her life once again, the trio must hide the truth from the rest of the world while struggling to come to grips with their own destiny—and overcoming the danger surrounding them.

Leah Brooke’s first venture into the paranormal did not work for me as well as her erotic romances, either contemporary or western historical. Don’t get me wrong, this is a hot book with lots of intense sex scenes, but the plot complexities and connection with the characters was not as strong as in her other books. In fact, I never thought I’d say this, but the sex actually distracted from the story.

The book also suffers from some minor editing flaws-in one scene one of the heroes takes a bat away from the heroine, and several lines later she is gripping it with both hands.

Having said all that, Panther’s Prey is still a fairly good read. There’s plenty of conflict, both between the two shapeshifting heroes and the object of their affection, and between the heroine and the people who are out to kill her. The book is fast paced and loaded with action, both in the sheets and out of them. And although it’s not billed as part of a series, there are plenty of openings given for future works.

If you like shapeshifters-in this case, black panthers, and ménage romance, give this one a try.

  1. Good review! And it is what it is….sometimes the sex does detract from a paranormal story instead of adding it. I’ll probably still give this book a try
