Description:
Michael, the warrior angel, is the fiercest of the Fallen, their staunchest defender. Never has he met a foe he could not defeat in combat…until the love of a mortal woman threatens to sway him from his greatest duty.
I recently read the first two books in Kristina Douglas’ The Fallen series in order to review the latest installment, Warrior. I would agree with the author, that this series is best read from the beginning because the stories build on one another.
Warrior begins with a prophecy in which Michael (you guessed it, the warrior himself) must find and marry a woman hand picked for this and stored away like Rapunzel, destined to be his mate. A mate he absolutely NO interest in meeting, screwing, or anything else. He’s a warrior, and his sole focus is his mission.
Victoria Bellona is the goddess of war reincarnated. She’s spent her short life being trained for combat, and locked away in the attic by her keepers. She’s had a few short stints in boarding school in the like, but in order to keep her under wraps, she’s basically been kept from any real contact with the outside world. She’s gotten her vast knowledge of the universe from a steady DVD collection and a few good books.
Michael and Tori fight their magnetism at every corner, but their destiny can not be denied. They are fighters in every aspect, and losing is not an option either of them is willing to consider. Losing to love they don’t want is just hard to swallow, but unavoidable all the same.
Ms. Douglas writing is humorous and full of sexy banter. The worldviews of the young heroines paired with fallen angels that are infinitely older is full of opportunities to tease each other. Plenty of feminism thrown in to keep these old school types off balance.
For me what really sets this series apart, is the complex and intriguing setting. Ms. Douglas’ paranormal world holds strong fantasy elements, and there is plenty of room for some amazing creativity. Her depictions of the environment are so vivid you can taste them. Seriously, there is scene from Warrior that rivals Willy Wonka and Candy Land for pure sugary bliss, and it’s just *yummy* :o)
I enjoyed Raziel (book 1), and I had some reservations about Demon (book 2). Warrior, has totally redeemed my opinions, and I have high hopes for the 4th installment, Rebel, next year!

This is the first I’ve heard of this series or this book, which both sound great. Thanks for sharing.
