Description:
Nitro? Meet glycerin…
Punk Musician Nixie Schmelling is a hundred pounds of Attitude who spells authority a-n-c-h-o-r and thinks buying insurance is just one more step toward death. So she really feels played when she’s “volunteered” to run the town’s first annual fund-raising festival. Especially when she finds out it’s to pay for a heavy-hitting, suit-wearing lawyer – who’s six-feet-plus of black-haired, blue-eyed sex on a stick.
Attorney Julian Emerson learned centuries ago that the only way to contain his dangerous nature is to stay buttoned up. He’s come from Boston to defend the town from a shady group of suits…and an even shadier gang of vampires. But his biggest problem is Nixie, she shreds his self-control.
Nixie doesn’t get why the faphead shyster doesn’t understand her. Julian wishes Nixie would speak a known language….like Sanskrit. Even if they manage to foil the bloodthirsty gang, what future is there for a tiny punk rocker and blue-blooded skyscraper?
And that’s before Nixie finds out Julian’s a vampire…
Ah, Nixie. What a wonderful, whacky, loveable character she is. She had me rolling my eyes when we first met her in “Bite My Fire” and has me hysterically laughing in “Biting Nixie”. And Julian, well, what can you say about an uptight lawyer with abs of steel and pecs of iron? Um, yummy???
Nixie first encounter’s Julian when she is at City Hall and he saves her from her former Assistant Principal who still thinks she is a student. Yes, Nixie is small and everyone still thinks she’s a kid, even Julian, at first. Nixie is a musician with her own language (some of her slang is listed below). Julian is an old-world vampire who is sent to help stop the Coterie from taking over the blood-bank in Meier’s Corners. Nixie thinks she is raising money to pay Julian and totally resents that. But, the money is actually for the town to stop Nosferatu and Lord Ruthven from taking over. Julian just wants to get the negotiations over with and get on with his life. Nixie thinks Julian is really hawt – Julian can’t keep his hands or fangs to himself. What happens is an explosion of laughs and more vampire sex – lot’s of vampire sex.
So, all the wonderful characters from Meier’s Corners are back in “Biting Nixie” and we get to meet some other interesting people as well. The quirky Detective Ruffle’s is back along with Razor and the gang. Bo and Elena make an appearance or two with her trusty bazooka and we meet Logan Steele. And, Nixie’s mom is just a hoot playing matchmaker and trying to get Dietlinde to settle down. Yes, that is Nixie’s real name. The fundraiser was laugh out loud funny with the Cheese Balls and the Beauty Pageant. And, of course, there had to be some drama with the blood-bank. Again, there is no way to do a synopsis of “Biting Nixie”. Just too much is going on to try to explain it all. And I just would not do it justice.
Again, Mary Hughes had me laughing and smiling throughout the book. We moved from scene to scene seamlessly and got to know more about what the people of Meier’s Corner’s are up against. A whole lot of story-lines were left open which means there is more fun and laughter to come and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for these people. There is a part of me that really hopes that, somewhere along the line, she finds a female vampire for Detective Ruffles. Maybe Drusilla??
Some of Nixie’s Vocabulary:
