Description:
When Presley Howard loses his job and his lover of five years, control of his life is gone. His daily routine is thrown into disarray, bringing him close to a nervous breakdown.
On the advice–or rather, the insistent prodding–of his twin sister, he takes a vacation in Pensacola, Florida to relax and reconnect with parents he hasn’t seen in years. What he finds is a sense of hope and the only man who can rein him back in and save his broken heart, hunky pediatric surgeon, Dr Camden Brooks.
Together, they conquer Presley’s fears and temper his need to control everything around him, and their blossoming love gives Dr Brooks something new and beautiful to look forward to.
I have a love/hate relationship with novellas. I adore them because I can read them quickly especially at night before bed and not be up all crazy hours of the night trying to finish them. I hate them because more often than not, I want more. While I truly enjoyed Seasons of Change by Allison Cassatta, I finished the book with unanswered questions which in never a good thing for me because I’ll spend a lot of time mulling it over in my brain. Like Presley the loveable hero in this book, I’m a little OCD (self diagnosed but its there) so I’ll be thinking about this book for some time to come. I can’t help it because I really need to know the answers to my questions!
Presley has just been laid off due to company downsizing and now his live in lover of 5 years has decided he doesn’t bring anything into the relationship and is dumping him. His whole world is crumbling around him and he’s freaking out. Thankfully his twin sister is there to catch him. She convinces him to go to Florida and spend some time with their newly retired parents and chill. His first night he’s walking on the beach and meets Camden (Cam), a pediatric surgeon. Within a few hours of meeting they have a sexual interlude and form a friendship.
First off, I like both of these characters even though we don’t know a lot about them. Cam seems like a great guy; caring, devoted father (there’s a story behind that), and very understanding of Presley’s issues. Presley comes off as somewhat needy but it’s understandable given what’s happened in his life over the last few days. It doesn’t make me like him any less in fact I sympathize with him. Add in his OCD and the issues with sand and the beach and I completely understand him. What concerns me is that they never really discuss his OCD and if it’s being treated.
I’ll totally admit the cover is the first thing that drew me to this book, then the synopsis reeled me in and
I liked Seasons of Change I just wish there was more to it. The story was interesting, the characters likeable, and I felt the heat between these two men but I really want to know what happens next!
How do Presley’s parents feel about their arrangement (especially his Dad)? Will Presley survive being away from his sister (his rock)? What does Cam’s thirteen year old daughter (and her Mother) think about the situation? Does Presley ever swim in the ocean? So Allison throw me a bone, is this the end of Presley and Cam story or do we get a sequel?
3.5 Stars
I didn’t consider writing a sequel, but who knows what might happen. The unfortunate thing about writing for “Submission Calls” is the word limit restraints. I wished it could’ve been much longer. The boys certainly had a lot more to say.
Allison, thank you so much for replying. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we get a sequel at some point. I really did like these men and would love to see how their relationship progresses. I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
The cover is the first thing I noticed too, it’s just so damn sexy, the book sounds really good too-thanks Slick for the author intro!
