Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000031_00001]Description:
It was a hell of a longshot… CIA Assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever – in Sinful, Louisiana. With a leak at the CIA and a price on her head by one of the world’s largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small, bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she’s determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play. Unfortunately, she hasn’t even unpacked a suitcase before her newly-inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard. Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly-sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she’s not careful, this investigation may blow her cover and get her killed. Armed with her considerable skills and a group of old ladies referred to by locals as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it’s too late.

Louisiana Longshot is the first in the Miss Fortune mystery series by Jana DeLeon. Jana is a newatruegemaward to me author introduced to me by my moma. I’m a fan of the humorous mysteries like the Stephanie Plum series, so this book was a great read for me.

When CIA Assassin Fortune Redding finds herself on the bad side of the wrong bad guy and at the top of his seriously big hit list, her boss sends her undercover for her protection to Sinful, Louisiana to pose as his ex-beauty queen niece. Fortune being a woman who can unwillingly find trouble in the most innocent of situations finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and on the bad side of the sheriff’s deputy on her first day in Sinful. This is due to the fact that the dog her cover inherited finds a human bone along the bayou in her temporary backyard.

A couple of seemingly sweet old ladies who were friends of her “aunt” take her under their wings to make her temporary time in Sinful most enjoyable, and they rope her into trying to investigate the murder with them to prove that there close friend didn’t kill her no good husband. These ladies are a part of the Sinful Ladies Society, and have proudly been undercover running the town for decades. Gertie and Ida Belle are not your typical older ladies, and they add to the books action and humor!! They steal a chunk of Fortune’s and my heart!!

I absolutely loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what these ladies were going to get into next! There were moments that I was literally laughing out loud. I really enjoyed that Jana wrote this book about Louisiana without falling into the stereotypical dumb Cajun rednecks type of book. My only complaint and it isn’t a big one is that in the part of Louisiana that this is set in the older ladies would have spoken some if not fluent Cajun French. My being from this area and of the Cajun heritage my everyday chitchat includes a few words from that language even though I don’t speak it. But that is very minor and I kind of understand why it was left out. I hope you guys love this book and series as much as I have. 🙂
