This was one of those books that threw me off guard. I expected a fun, happy go lucky story but in reality it was quite deep, pretty emotional, and yet it was entertaining. The Unexpected Wedding Guest has an ex-husband returning just days before his ex-wife’s wedding because he needs to make amends, trouble is he soon finds out that’s easier said than done.
Reese Michaels is getting ready to marry the man of her dreams or at the very list the man of her parent’s dreams. Divorced for over 9 years, she still hasn’t completely made peace with the man she divorced but she’s determined to move on. But when Mason Hicks arrives at her wedding venue looking better than he did 10 years ago, old feeling resurface and her life just became more complicated.
Mason is trying to get his life back. After a near death experience that has left him with more problems than he’ll ever admit, he needs to confront his ex-wife and clear the air. Seeing her in her wedding gown only brings to light how different they are and how wrong they were for each other from the beginning. So how come being near her feels so right?
It was so easy to understand how quickly these two feel for one another and see that neither was mature enough or prepared enough for marriage especially a military one. However, the undeniable heat burns so brightly that Reese’s fiancé, Dylan sees it and postpones the wedding until she resolves things with Mason.
While I enjoyed the story the first half seemed to drag on incessantly and we were left with a lot of questions at the end. I appreciate the progress these two made; the fact that they both owned up to their past mistakes and seem to be working towards something better but I wanted more. I’m especially interested in how Mason’s recovery is progressing and I’ll admit I’d like to know if Dylan finds his love match.
I was surprised by The Unexpected Wedding Guest but in a good way; the characters were intriguing, the plot proved interesting, and the rekindled love sweet yet sexy. Anyone who understands young love gone wrong only to find it again years later will understand the effort that went in to this book.
