Overall this story didn’t hold my interest; there was so much indecision followed by an immediate resolution with little time to digest and it just felt a little too rushed for my tastes. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

Sometimes I read a book and I feel like I’m at a tennis match watching the ball go back and forth, back and forth and then BAM it’s over. That was pretty much how I felt about One Night in the Spa by Kathy Lyons. Overall it didn’t hold my interest; there was so much indecision followed by an immediate resolution with little time to digest and it just felt a little too rushed for my tastes.

Kim Castillo is a gym manager and ex-pro athlete. Everything in her life is in an uproar with the exception of her job (or so she thinks) and her friendship with David who manages the spa that shares the building with them. When David saves her from an attack by an overzealous member their lives become way more complicated.

This is one of those books where I really had trouble completely liking both the main characters. There is no doubt Kim is independent and strong and while I understand her infliction I really felt she could have handled or controlled it better than she did. David while one hundred percent alpha male is very New Age and to be honest in touch with his feminine side. I like a man who isn’t afraid to discuss feelings but this guy is just a little over the top so much so that I didn’t find him attractive in the least.

After three years David decides it’s time to change their status from friends to lovers, because they have known each other for so long the rapid pace of this didn’t bother me. However, David pushing for more right away was a little creepy and I honestly felt a little sorry for Kim having so much dumped on her at one time. To top is off David has been keeping something huge from Kim and when it’s discovered the outcome was just a little too neatly done.

This is one of those books that suffered from being too short, honestly the heroine has some big issues which needed to be addressed with a professional and she needed time to accept and heal. The hero basically did something illegal yet it was washed over. I really didn’t feel the heat between these two nor did I buy their rush to the “I love you” stage. While the concept of One Night in the Spa was good, the writing fell flat, the characters were not likeable, and the ending was rushed.
