When Karma writes you a ticket, pay up or else…

If life was like the movies, Jem Mitchell’s wouldn’t be such a mess. In LA’s glittering world of dreams, he works an unglamorous job at a gourmet grocery store. His past is so deep and dark, the details are lost even to him. All he knows is he was once cursed by a meter maid, and ever since, his love life has sucked.

When Detective Nick Davies becomes a regular at the store, Jem dares to hope he’s un-hexed at last. He should have known that sex with a remarkably normal guy, devoid of weird fetishes and fatal personality flaws, was too good to be true.

During a post-encounter cuddle, Nick recognizes the tattoo on Jem’s back—and remembers him as a young hustler he arrested nine years past.

As Jem’s memories come crashing back, he flees from Nick, but fate contrives to keep pushing them back together. And when Jem’s old partner in crime is found murdered, the stakes are raised for life, for love, and a dangerous drama with no guarantee of a Hollywood ending.

Warning: Stars a mild-mannered store clerk with a shady past, a hunky cop whose passion in the bedroom is as big as his passion for justice, and celebrity sightings you won’t see on TMZ,

When I first saw the cover for this book I was enamored, when I read the blurb for it was intrigued and now after reading it I’m pretty much ecstatic. I was completely blown away by this romantic suspense by Lou Harper. This is one of those stories where the relationship builds over shared conversation in a grocery line, it takes weeks before they finally go out for coffee, a little longer for a date, and then following an intimate moment the past rears its ugly head and both men are thrown into a tail spin. Secrets and Ink is a perfect title for this book with its gritty underbelly and edginess.

I adored the character of Jeremy (Jem) because he was so unassuming and quirky and despite his background a little bit naive. He lives a fairly quiet life which he’s okay with given his luck over the last several years in fact he prefers it. However the minute he sees Nick he feels an instant attraction. Nick being a police officer is careful of whom he associates with which is why he took his time before asking Jem out. But 10 years is a long time and appearances change as they both soon find out.

As much as I’d love to say more about this book, I don’t want to spoil the plot so I’m going to stop. I will say that Jem’s past rears its ugly head and he finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation and his life in danger. There were a lot of interesting and some creepy moments in this book, but all of it made for great suspense. All the while, Jem and Nick were trying to figure out where they fit in each other’s life.

Secrets and Ink had the right mix of danger and sexiness making it an excellent story. The characters were so different yet they just seemed to balance each other out. The writing was superb and I thank author Lou Harper for writing such an entertaining story!
