Wild Ones is the debut novel by author Kristine Wyllys. A nice start by a new author. Intriguing with some surprises and content that may be a little raw for some readers. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

Bri Martin likes her skirts too short, her heels too high, and trouble close at hand. So when big, brooding underground boxer Luke Turner comes into the bar where she works and starts a fight before she brings his first drink, she can’t help being intrigued. Luke is everything she never wanted and everything she can’t resist.

Soon, Luke is showing up everywhere Bri is, and she can’t break free of his hold on her, nor does she want to. When her best friend turns on her, it’s Luke who is there. When Luke’s opponent comes after her to send Luke a message, it’s he who comes to her rescue.

Before Bri knows it, she’s caught in the midst of a rivalry between her boyfriend and her boss, both of whom are not content to settle their scores inside the ring. She swore she’d never live this life, so like the one she once ran from. But only by confronting her past can she decide where her future lies…and whether Luke can be a part of it.

Wild Ones is the debut novel by author Kristine Wyllys. A nice start by a new author. Intriguing with some surprises and content that may be a little raw for some readers. I enjoyed the book – it drew me in – but I will warn you that there is some sexual and physical abuse alluded to. And, I give Ms. Wyllys credit for tackling these subject matters.

Bri and Luke seem to be meant for each other. Both like things fast and hard. Bri has issues relating to her past and is convinced that she is turning into the mother that didn’t care about her children – only about the man she loved. No matter how much abuse she took, Bri’s mom always stood by her man. Now, here she is with Luke and doing the same thing. Following the same patterns. She’s scared, she’s humiliated, she’s getting ready to run. She has to come to terms with what she left behind when she ran away and has to realize that Luke is not the man her father was.

Luke knows that Bri has a problem with his boxing but has fallen hard for her. There was just something about her that drew him to her and he has no way to stop the love that he is falling into. He’s hurt when he finds out what she went through as a child and that she didn’t trust him enough to tell him – he has to hear it from Jax, Bri’s best-friend and roommate. Now, he has to convince her that he’s not her father. And, when push comes to shove, he’ll be there for her – no matter what.

I was impressed that this was a first-time author. Wild Ones was well written and kept me totally involved with both the characters and the story. There didn’t seem to be any down time in the book, it was always moving forward and didn’t become stagnant with elaborate descriptions unless it added to the scene, the story was always being told and I give Ms. Wyllys kudos for that. So, besides some unsavory content (that only enhanced the book) I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to where she is going to be bringing us in the second book.
