Again, Alexandra Ivy drew me in and I am looking forward to seeing where she will be bringing the Mave, The Tagos and the rest of the Sentinels. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

17802756Description:
In The Heart Of Darkness ….Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. Beautiful erotic dancer, murdered at home, no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro–one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Lies The Kiss Of Death….Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line.. . literally.

Alexandra Ivy drew me into her Paranormal world with her Guardians of Eternity Series so I was atruegemawardreally looking forward to reading/reviewing the first full-length book in her new Sentinel Series. At first, I had a hard time pulling everything together in my mind but, once it all became clear, I was totally impressed with who and what the Sentinels are, their way of life and what they do to help humanity. Again, she drew me in and I am looking forward to seeing where she will be bringing the Mave, The Tagos and the rest of the Sentinels.

Duncan O’Conner has lusted after Callie Brown since he first set eyes on her. Yes, she lives in Valhalla and is considered one of the “freaks” but to him, she’s beautiful and kind and he can’t stop dreaming about the things he wants to do with her. It’s just lust … nothing more. Until she is called in to help with a case and he spends time with her … working the case, in Valhalla, alone.

Callie can enter into the minds of deceased people. This is her special gift as a High-Blood Sentinel. She’s used to being called in on cases with the humans to see who may have committed the crime. She’s always been attracted to Duncan O’Conner and dreads that she has to now work with him. How is she going to keep her secrets safe – the one’s where she lusts after him. And, what would he want with her? She’s one of the “freaks” … nothing special … he’s human and they don’t mix with Sentinel’s.

When the truth starts coming out about Duncan and about Callie, all hell is breaking lose. Duncan has to chose between being a human cop and being the Sentinel that he has always known he was. He has no choice if he wants to help save the woman that he has fallen in love with. Callie too has to face her demons … the necromancer that is attempting to take over the world needs her to complete the ritual. She needs to face the people that just left her in a dumpster when they found out that she was going to be a High-blood .. she needs to face the facts that she alone can control the Zombies … then she has to meet Duncan’s parents.

So, as I stated, I had a hard time getting into the swing of things with this book. Then, all of a sudden, I was dragged under and got totally engrossed in the story. I absolutely loved both Duncan and Callie. Fane, well, I hope that he finally realizes that the girl for him is right in front of him. The Mave and The Tagos also have to face some facts. I guess that’s Ms. Ivy’s way of setting up the rest of the series and I am intrigued as to what the new threats to the Sentinel’s she has waiting for us.
