Every book in this series amazes me with not only introducing real life aspects of archaeologists of all forms but also in giving us glimpses into the jobs we don’t always hear about our men and women doing in war torn countries.
Have you heard the term Bait and Switch? Well the author got me good. If you’ve read the other books in the series especially the 2nd book you she likes to start off with a thrilling ride and never let up until the last page. Well she had me fooled the first couple of chapters in this one. Trina Sorensen is a military historian with NHHC (Navel History and Heritage Command). She’s fought hard to get to where she is in what was considered a man’s only world in the past. Her latest assignment is to gather and write from a historians view point about what happened in Somalia five years ago with a Seal team. Not used to working on something where the people are still living she not quite ready for the reception she gets from one of the men she needs to interview.
Keith Hatcher cannot believe when a woman shows up on his doorstep looking like the sexiest librarian he’s ever seen (which it seems he has a secret fetish for) and the sexual banter between these two was funny and hot until she tells him why she is there he waste no time in telling her she is wasting her time and he will never talk about that mission in Somalia.
Where the bait and switch comes in is the first couple of chapters are the back and forth between Keith and Trina when Keith decides he’d like to pursue the sexual chemistry between them. They meet again at a political party but things don’t go any better that night. Every character we’ve met in the previous books is back in this one. Mara is Trina’s boss and Erica is her co-worker. It was great getting to see them again with their men.
So yeah you’re comfortable now in just thinking this is just a romance with no action or suspense and then BAM the author throws you for a loop and the next thing you know these two are running for their lives and trying to figure out what’s going on. Is the treat against Keith for what he knows about Somalia or has Trina somehow uncovered something in her research?
This was another wild ride in a series I’ve come to love and look forward to the next adventure.
