Grab some peanuts, a cold beer, or even a hot dog, and join me as I read and review this series dedicated to the best sport in the world…BASEBALL!! ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures
Description:
The stress of opening her own specialty bakery has kept Brooke tied up in knots, just not the kind she would prefer. When she spies the hunk of a Dom across the crowded bar, she’s intrigued, but his wristband indicates he’s off limits. That doesn’t stop her from doing the most daring thing she’s ever done to snag a man’s attention, but when things escalate beyond even her wildest imaginings, she can’t get out of there fast enough.
His contract with the Mustangs is set to expire at the end of the season, and third baseman, Todd Stevens is holding out for a longer, more lucrative deal as a free agent. Convinced more money and a new city will cure what ails him, he isn’t looking for a long-term relationship, much less a one-time hookup with a sub who doesn’t know her place. Unfortunately, the little minx eyeing him from across the room might just be the one to make him change his mind.

*This is a prequel to Roz Lee’s Mustangs Baseball series. It was written after several of the other books had been written, so the release date is after those books but it truly is the beginning of this series.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a HUGE baseball fan, HUGE I mean watching every game, knowing stats, getting pissed off when they trade away my favorite players, been a fan of the same team for going on 30 years type HUGE. My team is the Texas Rangers, it always has been through bad times and good times, and times like the past two years where they’ve traded off all my favorite players. So while I’m still mourning all of that, I’m getting lost in the fictional team from Dallas, Texas…The Mustangs. And I must say; I’m enjoying my “new” team quite a lot! So, grab some peanuts, a cold beer, or even a hot dog, and join me as I read and review this series dedicated to the best sport in the world!
Todd Stevens is a veteran player facing some career changing decisions. His team doesn’t want to give him the contract his agent says he deserves so he’ll be a free agent at the end of the season. As he’s felt unsettled for some time now, he’s thinking this might be a good thing even though he’ll miss the guys he’s played with and formed a bond with.
Brooke hasn’t had time for a relationship or a night out as she worked to get her specialty baking business off the ground. Now at a munch she finds herself attracted to the only Dom not interested in play by the color bracelet on his arm. After making eye contact she does something she knows she shouldn’t and the abruptly leaves.
First off I admire Brooke for her bold move to get Todd’s attention even though she knows she went about it the wrong way. I also admire her for seeking him out so he can punish her for her misbehavior. While Todd could have publicly humiliated her, he instead chose to do something entirely different and then found himself offering something he doesn’t think he wants and knows he shouldn’t since he’s leaving soon.
I very much enjoyed watching these two play together with Todd pushing Brooke to the edge of her boundaries. It was easy to see that there was more between them than play although neither admitted it right away. There were still a lot of unknown aspects of their relationship even as this book ended because all this couple has is their contract and the club in which they play.
I have the unfair advantage of having read the next two books before this one, so I’m just going to say that you will see this couple again and things between them become clearer and I encourage you to keep reading this series because there are some great stories coming up. While Free Agent leaves some unanswered questions, I’m happy that Ms. Lee went back and wrote this novella so we could see where this couple began.

Nice cover.
I have this series on my radar b/c I love books with a baseball world backdrop especially if baseball plays a large part.
Thanks for sharing about the prequel.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’ll have to check it out. I recognize the model for the cover and he is a super nice guy. Scott makes a nice cover.
