If it flies, drives, or fornicates, it’s cheaper to rent it.

After driving James Harcourt, his wealthy banker boss, around for a year and a half, Cal isn’t surprised by much anymore. Not even James’s regular trips to Market Garden, London’s most elite gay brothel.

But when James leaves the Garden alone one night and turns to Cal instead, Cal’s floored. After crushing on his boss for ages, it’s his wet dream come true . . . until the awkward morning after. Cal still has a job to do, but he wants to offer more. Yet James doesn’t take him up on it; he keeps Cal at arm’s length and continues his chauffeured jaunts to Market Garden.

As Cal learns what James needs from the rentboys, he tries to fill that need himself. But there’s more to James’s penchant for rentboys than Cal realizes, and it may be one role that Cal can’t fill without overstepping his duty.

There is just something about the Market Garden series by Aleksandr Voinov and L.A. Witt that I atruegemawardlove. I’m not sure if it’s because so many consider the subject matter taboo which is utterly ridiculous or that these two write characters that are so much more than they seem at first glance. Whatever the case, I’m fully enthralled by this series and If It Drives takes this series down a completely different road (and I’m kind of snickering at my pun here) in which a john from previous stories whom we know as Red Tie gets himself entangled with a most unlikely partner and Nick, a former rent boy, coming along for back-up. Interesting doesn’t even begin to describe this story about one man willing do to anything to give another exactly what he needs and wants.

For 18 months Callum (Cal) has been chauffeuring James Harcourt around. He’s seen him through his divorce, through his depression, and though it’s killed him…through his need to hire rent boys from the Market Garden until one night when the person James wants isn’t available and he turns to Cal. For Cal it’s the moment he’s been waiting for James it’s a turning point he’s not ready for.

I was completely fascinated by the intricate and intriguing developing relationship between Cal and James. It was evident there was something between them from the beginning but neither one was sure how to proceed because in doing so they crossed some boundaries. Every time they take one step forward something happens to make one or the other jump back. When Cal feels he can’t meet all of James’ needs, he seeks out the help of the one person James never expects to see again but the one who can help Cal understand everything he needs.

While Cal discovers he has what it takes to keep James happy and James figures out how to deal with their changing relationship, the bond between them grows stronger. If It Drives was another amazing addition to a well written and completely mesmerizing series.
