I had a hard time putting this book down because I genuinely cared about these characters and what was happening between them. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures
Description:
One fake relationship . . .
Ginny Michaels has always been a good girl and—ever since surviving a school shooting a little over a year ago—hailed a hero. Except she doesn’t feel like a hero. She can’t even have a one-night stand with sexy Wes Dalton properly. When her big city fling resurfaces in her hometown with an intriguing proposition, she’s powerless to resist. A fake relationship is exactly what’s needed to keep her small town’s matchmakers at bay during the upcoming wedding season. If only her attraction to Wes were as easy to ignore.
Too many real kisses . . .
Wes Dalton doesn’t have many regrets, and that includes his night with Ginny. But he’s always hoped to strengthen his relationship with his estranged family. When his father’s health takes a bad turn, Wes puts his life on hold and moves to the meddling seaside town of Cape Hope. With his barriers in place—and a beautiful woman to help him hold them up—he’s prepared for anything. Or so he thinks. Despite his determination to leave as soon as the summer is over, those fake kisses are starting to feel an awful lot like the real thing.

I’ll admit I have a sick sense of humor so I’m always thrilled when a one night stand or in this case a 24 minute stand comes back to bite the participants in the ass. This book starts off with a hotter than hell encounter up against the wall of a bar in the rain between two strangers that don’t realize they’ll soon be living in the same small town at least for a short while. I enjoyed this book immensely; there were a lot of flat out funny times, some entertaining conversations, and eventually some more sexy times. The characters were interesting from the two main characters to all of the supporting ones. The writing was a little uneven; there were times that the conversations were so heartfelt they melted me but then there were times where they seemed stilted and a few instances that were just plain corny. Despite that I had a hard time putting this book down because I genuinely cared about these characters and what was happening between them.
When Wes Dalton arrives in Cape Hope it’s with one objective, to help his half brothers deal with their dad and his progressing Alzheimer’s. He never expects to run into Ginny Michael’s his one night stand he met the night before and to not immediately recognize her. Saying these two don’t get off on the best foot is putting it mildly however they soon realize they can help each other by being friends and pretending to be more to avoid being fixed up by her Mom and the town busy bodies.
It was fun to watch Wes and Ginny run the gauntlet of small town meddling and gossip. I was amazed how easily they found it to talk to one another about anything and everything often sharing things with each other they never shared with people closer to them. They formed this very cozy friendship all while trying to deny the intense sexual desire for one another and working like hell to keep from succumbing to their baser needs. So, it’s no surprise when they did finally give in they were pretty damn combustible.
Honestly, author Elyssa Patrick has always impressed me with the characters in her books; they are so well written that you can imagine grabbing a drink with them and being friends. So while the plot was a little tedious, I was able to overlook it because the characters just drew me in and made me want to stay. Overall, I enjoyed Four Weddings and a Breakup and really hope we are treated to some more Cape Hope stories in the future.
