Fanning the Flames is a very engaging story about starting over and dealing with insecurities. ~ Donna, Guilty Pleasures
Description:
Burning for you
Some men are off-limits. Close friends of your ex-husband, for instance. Or firefighters who work in the same building as you. Yet despite her best judgment, librarian Lauren Foster can’t help noticing fire captain Jake Davis whenever he jogs by…shirtless. They’ve always been friends, but all it takes is one not-so-chance meeting at a local bar and one not-quite-innocent walk home to ignite a fierce, uncontrollable desire between them.
Widower Jake Davis has tried to ignore the spark he feels whenever Lauren’s around, but once he sees her curves in a little black dress, there’s no turning back. No matter how often she says she’s all wrong for him, the sexy, outspoken divorcée is driving him wild in the best possible way. Maybe she’s just blowing off steam. Or maybe he can convince her to fan these flames into something deeper, hotter and truer than they ever expected….

Lauren Faster is a forty-three year old divorcee whose son has just left for college. Most moms would be upset to have their only child leave but Lauren is slightly relieved; she’s excited to have the house to herself without a teenage boy.
Jake Davis is a forty-six year old widower who’s only child has recently moved back home while she plans her weddingVictoria. He is the fire captain for the town’s fire department. He’s dated in the last couple years since losing his wife, but his heart has not been into it!
I found the beginning of this book a bit insulting as the female character talks about “counting down the years to menopause.” Being a female in my forties that’s not something I want pointed out. However, I did love the fact that these characters were much closer to my age then most characters in the books I read. Many characters are in their twenties with perfectly sculpted bodies. Lauren is described as having stretch marks from being pregnant and Jake has salt and pepper hair.
“They’re breasts, Lauren! Men like them. All of them. Keep the lights low and let him play with them. Instant happiness.”
This book is a very engaging story about starting over and dealing with insecurities. The two encounter issues of going out in a world of much younger adults. It’s not easy being in your forties at a bar full of twenty some-things. These two also have adult children and that can add some interesting and humorous situations. Another challenge they must deal with is that Jake is friends with Lauren’s ex-husband and the four (Jake and his wife and Laura and her husband) used to socialize together. This makes them both feel awkward. This book had a couple of good “romantic” scenes if you know what I mean ;).
I enjoyed this book and finished it in one afternoon. I give this book 4 stars and 2 hands down the pants.
Thanks for the review Donna
