I love a book that makes me laugh and this book had me laughing out loud throughout. ~ Paige Turner, Guilty Pleasures

18509631Description:
Marley Cartman is fed up with arrogant rich guys who treat her like garbage, so she vows to only date men with modest paychecks and a little dirt under their nails.

Her new boss, William Barclay, is exactly the kind of man she’s trying to avoid: an eccentric millionaire with duct shape shoes and an unexplained vendetta against her.

But as Will and Marley butt heads over grumpy badgers and phallic artifacts, they discover that sometimes the opposite of what you want is exactly what you need.

This was a pleasant surprise. I was immediately drawn into the book as well main characters, Will and Marley . To say Will is your average guy would be an understatement. He has money which helps him with his cause, The Historical Society – Cheese Wiz. He’s trying to make a difference in his community.

Marley is a people pleaser. This worked well in her job but not so good in her personal life. Often times she forgot about pleasing herself.

The witty banter, quick retorts and double entendre between Will and Marley was priceless. I kept reading to see what they had to say to each other. I also liked Marley’s father. His advice he gave wasn’t always the best but he was only trying to look out for his daughter.

There were two things I didn’t like about the book. I didn’t care for Bethany, his sister, and April, his ex-wife, very much. I thought they were always trying to rub their relationship in Will’s face.

My second dislike is that this book just ended. I thought I was missing chapters. It just ended. As a reader, I felt a little empty by this quick ending.

No doubt I would have given this a higher rating if it had a better ending.

  1. Hey there! Thanks for the nice review! I’m actually a little concerned about your comment re: the ending. I’m totally fine with it if you just didn’t like it (that happens, it’s cool!) But I’ve had issues before with pages actually missing from copies of books. I just want to make sure that’s not what happened here. The final scene takes place in front of the otter tank with Marley trying to quit her job and Will bursting in to say he doesn’t want her to quit (and pledging his devotion, of course). Did you get that scene? No worries if you read it and just didn’t feel it was a satisfactory ending, but if you DIDN’T get that scene, can you email me at tawnafenske at yahoo dot com? We’ll need to alert the publisher about the problem. Thanks!
