I’ve been a big fan of Jill Shalvis for a long time and I don’t know what’s been inspiring her lately but her last few releases have been some of her best work and He’s So Fine is included in that bunch. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures
Description:
For Olivia Bentley, Lucky Harbor is more than the town where she runs her new vintage shop. It’s the place where folks are friendly to strangers-and nobody knows her real name. Olivia does a good job of keeping her past buried, not getting too cozy with anyone . . . until she sees a man drowning. Suddenly she’s rushing into the surf, getting up close and personal with the hottest guy she’s ever laid hands on.
Charter boat captain Cole Donovan has no problem with a gorgeous woman throwing her arms around his neck in an effort to “save” him. In fact, he’d like to spend a lot more time skin-to-skin with Olivia. He’s just not expecting that real trouble is about to come her way. Will it bring her deeper into Cole’s heart, or will it be the end of Olivia’s days in little Lucky Harbor?

I’ve been a big fan of Jill Shalvis for a long time and I don’t know what’s been inspiring her lately but
her last few releases have been some of her best work and He’s So Fine is included in that bunch. I love the trio of men that inspired the latest three releases in her Lucky Harbor series; they are tough, sexy, passionate, hard working, and they have been through a lot together (throughout most of their lives) which only makes their bond stronger. As with any book by this author I always expect some humor, but this couple and their circumstances have them having some of the most comical conversations I can remember in a long time and that makes me smile as I write this review.
Owning his own business with his best friends is a dream come true for Cole Donovan and life is pretty good these days with the exception of an issue with one of his sisters and a slight case of undiagnosed PTSD after an oil rig accident took the life of one of his best friends. He loves being back home in Lucky Harbor and captaining the boat of their charter company and playing Mr. Fixit for the company, his family, and friends. So when a little electrical spark sends him diving into the frigid water he never expects to be “saved” by Olivia Bentley a woman he knows to be the friend of his business partner and “brother” Sam.
There’s an instant and apparent spark between these two from the beginning especially considering they are in freezing cold water and approaching hypothermia. It was fun watching these two try and not get involved but not really fighting it either. Cole is a hero who has a huge heart and means well but he’s also a very black and white kind of guy which doesn’t bode well for Olivia who is hiding a lot of secrets about her past. She has a good reason but after discovering his last girlfriend’s secret at the funeral of his best friend secrets and lying are something he refuses to condone.
Life for Cole and Olivia gets very interesting, very quickly as the town’s resident busybody Lucille is more than happy to keep everyone up to date on the relationship they both aren’t quite willing to admit is happening. Meanwhile their well meaning friends and Cole’s family are quick to jump in with observations, questions, advice, and even a few “snap out of it” moments to make them see how good they really are together.
There is just so much that is right about this book and I enjoyed every minute of it. My biggest complaint was that it kind of ended abruptly leaving the reader with a lot of unanswered questions. Even with that, He’s So Fine is still one fantastic read filled with everything I expect from this author; wit, a bit of sarcasm, an engaging plot, intriguing characters and of course a love story worthy of a Hollywood rom-com.
