One In A Million kind of describes this series; there are few like it out there and it can never be replicated, but as a reader I can only hope that this author has something new and exciting up her sleeve to keep us entertained for the next decade or so! ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

19291332Description:
As the brains behind wedding site TyingTheKnot.com, Callie sees it all: from the ring to the dress, the smiles . . . to the tears. It’s that last part that keeps her single and not looking. Getting left at the altar will do that to a girl. But when Callie returns to her old hometown, she finds that her sweet high school crush is sexier than ever. And he makes it hard to remember why she’s sworn off love . . .

Tanner is a deep-sea diver with a wild, adrenaline-junkie past—and now his teenage son is back in his life. How can Tanner be a role model when he’s still paying for his own mistakes? It’s hard enough that gorgeous Callie has appeared in town like a beautiful dream, challenging his best-laid plans to keep his heart on lockdown. Though there’s something about being around her again that makes him feel like he can be the man she—and his son—deserve. Little Lucky Harbor holds their past; can it hold a beautiful new future?

So this is supposed to be it; the last book in Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series but the whole time I’m reading One In A Million, I keep thinking “what about the brunette that kept trying to pick up Tanner in the bakery?” See how my mind works? That was my mind telling me that Jill planted that woman in the bakery because she’s got plans for more books or at the very least a spin-off series. The crazy thing is I did love Tanner Riggs and Callie Sharpe together and I did enjoy their banter, their non-dates, their commitment to un-commitment, BUT I’m not sure what it says when a 15 year old boy steals a book because Tanner’s son Troy totally stole the show. That being said, I still loved this book but not as much as I enjoyed the last two in this series.

We’ve met both Tanner and Callie in previous books. Tanner and his buddies Sam and Cole own Lucky Harbor Charters and their bro-mance is well known and recognized by anyone in town. But Sam and Cole have found women to love and that leaves Tanner at loose ends especially now that his ex-wife has returned to town with his 15 year old son who of course has a 15 year old attitude. With Callie being Lucille’s grand-daughter we learned a lot about her background, her childhood, her heartache, and her life. While we got snippets of Tanner’s past, the one big thing we never got to see is him truly dealing with the loss of his friend Gil in the explosion that scarred him for life. After the last book, I was really hoping that we’d get more about how that all affected Tanner and it was kind of disappointing that it never really came up. What we did get to see is a man who never had a father figure trying his hardest to be the best dad he could be to a son he would do anything for and that my friends is why Tanner is such an amazing character. We also got to see Callie bonding with Troy at first because he reminded her so much of his dad at that age but as the book went on because he’s such an amazing kid much like his old man.

Honestly I felt like the romance between Tanner and Callie kind of took a backseat in this book to everything else that was going on in Lucky Harbor; they went from being “friends with benefits who aren’t friends, just benefits” to being in love in what felt like a blink of an eye. Sure they saw a lot of each other but there just didn’t seem to be any courtship so to speak and I missed that.

Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series has had its ups and downs and while I’ve loved some books more than others the fact remains I’ve continued to read them because I simply can’t stay away from this town and its crazy residents. One In A Million kind of describes this series; there are few like it out there and it can never be replicated, but as a reader I can only hope that this author has something new and exciting up her sleeve to keep us entertained for the next decade or so!
