The way this story was written I felt more on the outside looking in to what they were thinking and feeling and I never got to the point of experiencing who they were. ~ Afrodyt, Guilty Pleasures

25845033Description:
To find her way back to the light, she ll have to follow the howl…

When her disturbed, drug-addicted husband drops her off a balcony, nearly killing her, Libby has had enough. It s time to reclaim her life, starting by running away to a cabin at the foot of the Cascade Mountains.

There she finds welcome solitude—until a dead car battery leaves her stranded and alone on a frigid night. Her rescuer is a man with a name as unusual as his looks, and a white wolf at his side.

Equally isolated, but for very different reasons, Bodhi is drawn to Libby’s fragile, wounded spirit. Their erotic connection is strong from the start, but helping her risks exposing the secrets of his wolf companion, Stavros, to an unforgiving world.

Libby’s refuge doesn t last long. When danger comes hard and fast in the form of a husband determined to drag her back into his nightmare, the three of them must trust each other—with all their secrets—to escape the past’s long, deadly reach.

Warning: This book includes a violent ex-husband, a white wolf, two sexy heroes, a marathon threesome, and a heroine discovering her voyeuristic side.

My first impression as I was reading the initial chapters was that the heroine, Libby, seems very naive. Her faith in herself has been shaken by the abusive marriage she barely survived and her internal dialogue is very self-deprecating. Although I really wanted to, I found it a challenge to connect with her and get in her head. I found Libby to be a rather unbelievable character. She was weak internally and externally and I don’t enjoy that quality in a heroine. So unsure of herself and yet willing to “stand up to” her psycho ex-husband on her own without any plan or support even though it was offered by the heroes in this story? No way!

In the first sex scene, the author called Bodhi’s cock a “prick” and Libby’s ass a “rump.” I just found that to be so un-sexy. Maybe that’s just me, but it made me realize how much I take word choice for granted when it comes to make out scenes. There’s also a choppiness to the flow of the story. It’s a little hard to describe but there is no clear, distinct rhythm going on.

As far as the men are concerned, I never felt the two of them were developed enough for me to really connect with them. Stavros/Ross had some complexity to him given that he is the magical being in this story. However, Bodhi never quite clicked with me. He was kinda Alpha, but when coupling with Ross he was rather submissive. The way this story was written I felt more on the outside looking in to what they were thinking and feeling and I never got to the point of experiencing who they were. So it kept things very superficial.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that this book is poorly written, per se, it just didn’t connect with me. There were enough miscues that I flipped to the mode where I just wanted to finish it and move on, not savor the nuances of the story. I was motivated to keep going because the blurb said there would be a “marathon threesome” but in actuality it was more equivalent to a 10K. It’s not that this story was bad, it just wasn’t good either therefore I give it 2.5 stars.
