**Reviewer’s Note: This book runs simultaneously with Hard to Be Good and Hard to Let Go from 
Ms. Kaye’s Hard Ink series and while you do not have to read this series to appreciate this story, I think you’d get a much better understanding of this couple’s situation.
There is no denying that I loved every story in author Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink series so having the opportunity to review this crossover novella that bridges the Hard Ink series with her upcoming Raven Riders series was a dream come true for me. Although novella length this book read like a full length story and the characters were intriguing and their journey emotional.
Both Jessica Jakes and Ike Young have been featured in other books in the Hard Ink series as employees of Hard Ink Tattoos and there was a flirtatious nature to their relationship. When Jessica’s life is in danger due to an ongoing investigation where the shop was destroyed in an explosion, Ike steps in to remove her from the city and the MC he’s associated with the Raven Riders joins with the Hard Ink crew offering manpower, weapons, and connections.
It is always so interesting to me when two people want one another but one is afraid it will change the friendship and one feels he isn’t good enough. This couple absolutely killed me with their sexy banter, the sexual tension running rampant between them and their desire for one another evident in every thought and emotion. Ike’s fear of Jessica being hurt or killed was front and center and for a good reason and Jessica’s need to be more to Ike that a friend was present as well ramping up the strain between them. In addition these characters were pretty well developed which only added to the depth of this story.
Let it be known that Laura Kaye is the first author I’ve ever read that made a sex scene where one person was delirious with a fever not only amazingly sexy but oh so very hot (in more than one way). These two seriously are set the fire alarm off sexy together and I loved that they were completely in tune with each other and open to all kind of possibilities.
Hard As Steel is everything I’ve come to expect from this author; sexy, emotional and a bit of drama to make things interesting and I am now ready for the Raven Riders series to take flight!
