Thank you…finally a heroine, who is strong, sassy, speaks her mind, tattooed, loyal, hard working, competent, and compassionate and yet to the right people she is still all woman. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

25111048Description:
As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas…

Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living—she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…

Thank you…finally a heroine, who is strong, sassy, speaks her mind, tattooed, loyal, hard working, purestdelightaward competent, and compassionate and yet to the right people she is still all woman. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kate Meader for FINALLY writing a romance heroine who not only has brains but is beautiful inside and out! Playing With Fire is no doubt my favorite book by this author and that’s saying a lot because I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by her, but it is also one of my top books for 2015. I flat out LOVED this book not only because of the heroine but because of the hero who tried so hard to keep all the pieces of himself together but was broken apart bit by bit by the woman who stole his heart the moment he saw her, the moment she put him in his place the first time and the woman who has fought him tooth and nail for 8 long months. In addition this book features an outstanding secondary cast, a movie worthy plot and one twisted but sensual and sexy romance and even though I just finished reading it I want to start it all over again.

From the first time we saw Alexandra (Alex) Dempsey in the previous books of this series I knew, flat out knew, that her story would be special and falling in love for her would not be easy. When she got up in mayor Eli Cooper’s face the first time, there was no doubt in my mind that he was the one for her because there is a very thin line between love and hate and these two were bent so far over the line it’s a wonder it took them so long to fall.

Strange and complicated doesn’t even begin to describe the relationship between Alex and Eli; these are two very different people, she is all blue-collar and in your face and he is all suit wearing and not a hair out of place. To be honest there is no doubt that she really, really doesn’t like him or his very opinionated statements about women not being as capable as men but Alex feels a connection to him and her body really stands up and takes notice of him but she is strong and man does she make him work for it and I loved every minute of it. It would seem that Eli doesn’t care for Alexandra’s mouthiness or her lack of subtlety but in reality he can’t get her off of his mind and that is something that has never happened to him and let’s just say he takes a risk at dealing with it and that was just one of him mistakes.

I loved how these two balanced each other; how Eli saw that while she was tough on the outside on the inside she was all woman (and a woman who appreciated pretty things) and how Alex forced Eli to see the big picture to understand it wasn’t just about him and what he wanted but about what people expected and deserved. Oh they went round and round and when they succumbed to the lust that had been sparking between them sparks flew and raged out of control and it was a good thing Alex was well versed in putting out fires because these two were 4 alarm all the way. While their “dating” was good for Eli’s re-election campaign it was also evident these two were building more something neither one wanted to think about much less accept. I loved their verbal volleyball and the way they could tease each other into a frenzy with just a few words or a touch and I absolutely loved how uninhibited they were with one another.

I’ll be honest, I could probably go on for days about how much I loved this book so instead how about you head to your favorite bookseller and pick it up? I am confident that you’ll love it because Playing With Fire is quite simply one smarty, sexy, and flat out fabulous romance that is not to be missed.
