I loved this story from start to finish, from every high to every low and everything in between. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

25088776Description:
The daughter of one-time rock legends, Emma Maxwell is the good girl of the family, the dutiful sister, the doting aunt, and a dedicated employee in the family party-crashing business. Every Wednesday night at Karaoke, she indulges in her secret fantasy of being a singer. Yet the thrill of being on stage doesn’t rival the thrill of a spontaneous liaison with the delectable, yet downtrodden, quarterback of the Seattle Steelheads, Tanner Wolfe, Emma’s long-time crush.

Tanner didn’t see it coming–not any of it. He was blindsided–by his dysfunctional family, his plummeting career, and the one thing he least expected–by love. After photos with Emma go viral, Tanner is caught in a lie and tells a bigger one to get out of it. Now he’s shoulder-pads deep in a temporary marriage while struggling to resurrect his disastrous career and reunite his broken family. As time passes, Tanner begins to wonder if temporary is good enough, but he’s made a promise to Emma, one which has nothing to do with marriage vows and everything to do with her Nashville singing career and the end of their relationship.

Will Tanner and Emma take the ball and drive for the win, or will they be permanently relegated to the sidelines as the clock runs out on their temporary marriage?

This is my first book in the Seattle Steelheads Football series but it won’t be my last. Jami purestdelightawardDavenport offered up a spectacular love story of unrequited love that turns into a marriage of convenience and over time develops into much more, but not without a few twists and turns to get there. I loved this story from start to finish, from every high to every low and everything in between.

Emma Maxwell’s childhood was less than stellar, growing up with musicians who ignored their children Emma and her sisters made a pact to never pursue a career in music, but music is in Emma’s blood so when pro football player, Tanner Wolfe; the man she once crushed on as a young college co-ed needs a wife to clean up his image he offers to set her up with someone who can help her with her dream.

These two meet up in a pretty unusual way and then find themselves
quickly “involved” and shortly thereafter married. There was no denying the chemistry between them and the fact that Emma felt something for Tanner from the start so much stemming from the fact that she believed for years he was “the one.” The more time they spend together the more obvious it is that they are both feeling way more than they intended do given the expiration date on their marriage.

I loved Emma’s absolute faith in Tanner and his ability to maintain his position as quarterback of the Steelheads and I appreciated that she supported him in every way that she could. For someone with Tanner’s reputation it was interesting watching him begin to appreciate a different kind of life and I enjoyed how proud he was of Emma’s cooking ability and how much he loved listening to her sing karaoke even joining her at times.

As they didn’t know each other very well before jumping into marriage, they had some growing pains and Tanner’s inability to share about his childhood was a point of contention with them for awhile. Honestly, it was pretty refreshing watching them work through their problems while getting to know each other better all the while their feelings were growing daily which they both were afraid to share with the other.

While I did feel like Emma for a good part of this story put way more into the relationship than Tanner did, I have to admit that he acted very unselfishly allowing Emma the time she needed to pursue her dream and gave her space to decide what was best for her.

Blindsided was everything I look for in a romance; well developed and likeable characters, a bit of tension to make it interesting but not so much that it overshadows the romance, lots of sexy loving and an entertaining plot. Well done Ms. Davenport, well done!
