This was not a pretty or fun romance; it was a little dark, poignant and their journey took time, patience and the wisdom of friends to help them find the happiness they both so richly deserve. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

Carter Shaw isn’t a man anyone would mistake for a good guy. He’s has always been intense, up for anything and fearless —on the football field, when wearing his badge and in the bedroom.

But pleasure is never mixed up with love. His unstable upbringing was more than enough to scare him off commitments for good.

Until he meets Lacey Andrews.

A true do-gooder, heart and soul, Lacey is the only woman to ever make Carter wish he was a better man.

It’s probably a good thing his best friend fell in love with her first.

Even when Garrett is shot and dies in the line of duty, Carter knows he can’t give her everything she wants and needs. Until she shows up on his doorstep in nothing but a trench coat and pink lingerie. Now there may be a few things he can offer…

Losing her fiancé has only proven how short life is and Lacey doesn’t want to miss another moment of happiness. Carter might have turned down the chance at the long term threesome she and Garrett wanted, but she knows he hasn’t forgotten the deep friendship or the one hot night the three of them shared. Carter is the only one who can make her feel alive again. And while her heart will always hold Garrett’s memory, Lacey is ready to prove Carter will never have to share her…even with the ghost of another.

Erin Nicholas is known for writing fun, flirty and sexy stories of life and love; in her latest release, Illegal Motion, she offers up an intense, deep and extremely emotional story and proves she can not only stretch her writing muscle but excel at it as well. Two people with a connection are reunited 6 months after the death of his best friend and her fiancé, and must not only deal with the fallout from a memorable night they all three shared, but revelations from that night and regrets of time wasted. This was not a pretty or fun romance; it was a little dark, poignant and their journey took time, patience and the wisdom of friends to help them find the happiness they both so richly deserve.

There was no doubt Carter Shaw was in a deep, dark place and being at the wedding of friends isn’t helping. Carter doesn’t believe in romance, in love or marriage and babies; he’s seen what loves does to people up close as his Dad changes wives like he changes his underwear. Plus the one woman he’s had feelings for is someone he would never want to hurt and he knows he’ll end up hurting with his inherited possessiveness.

Lacey Andrews wanted to surprise Carter but getting the wrong house and then having to deal with not only an angry couple but Carter in full out police mode wasn’t quite the surprise she had in mind. I admired Lacey for taking a chance and going after what she wants, but most of all for sticking to her guns and not letting Carter hide from her or his feelings.

While this was a journey of two people trying to find a way to be together as a couple, there was a third person with them if only in their memories. I hurt for them both as they struggled to not only preserve their memories of Garrett, but as they realized how much they both needed one another. While Lacey was engaged to Garrett they had talked about Carter a lot and she had really taken time since his death to not only come to terms with it but to also realize that the other half of her heart belonged to Carter. Carter had not taken time to grieve or even really come to terms with the type of relationship Garrett and Lacey had wanted with him or for the time they lost because of him. To be honest Carter was kind of a mess and in many pieces but Lacey was the glue that was able to put him together. I appreciated the fact that Carter thought he needed help to make Lacey happy and was willing to do anything to keep her, but seriously he really went off the deep end a couple of times trying to find someone to step in an “help” him. I have to give Nolan a lot of credit for not only being a good friend to both Carter and Lacey but for trying to show Carter how way off base he was with his thinking. I also have to say that the scene in the bar with Oakley (from Mari Carr’s Red Zone) was flat out hilarious and gave them both some much needed perspective.

Hot, intense and emotional Illegal Motion shows a different side of author Erin Nicholas’ writing and an amazing addition to the Boys of Fall series.
