Having read the premise of this book, I went into it taking everything with a grain of salt, knowing that it was not going to be a realistic love story. After reading it, my initial assessment was pretty accurate, but I had a hard time trying to determine whether the author was trying to be serious, or if this book was supposed to be a farce. I chose to believe the latter as it made my read of it more enjoyable. Everything was too over-the-top to be taken seriously, so in viewing this as almost a tongue in cheek read, I was able to look past the utter ridiculousness of it.
In an attempt to escape her attraction to her step-brother, as well as her wicked step-mother’s disapproval of their relationship, wealthy Delaney escaped to a small remote village in Peru with the Peace Corp. In the intervening years, her step-brother, Jaden (who is incidentally a vampire) became famous rock star, but it never stopped his longing for Delaney.
Now, with an apocalypse threatening to destroy mankind, Jaden has come to find Delaney to participate in a sacred ritual which can stop the impending doom. As part of the ritual, Delaney must have sex with five of the sexiest and most virile vampires, in order to appease the virgin Inca maidens sacrificed to the gods eons ago. All while trying to escape the catastrophes Jaden’s mother is causing using her vampire/nature powers.
As I said, the premise of this book was not one I could take seriously. The story was more of a vehicle to deliver sex scenes than one that really told a tale. It was light, it was a quick read, and it was totally over the top. The sex scenes were completely hot, but there wasn’t a lot of character development to allow me to feel a connection to either of these people (or the other four guys who we know virtually nothing about). The utter ludicrousness of the plot made it hard to take this book seriously, but it was a quick and dirty book that is perfect if you are simply looking to escape.
