Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .
As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him—hard . . .
Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth.
Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

Being a huge fan of author Jill Shalvis I’m always like Horshack in Welcome Back Kotter when a book of hers comes up for review (and if you don’t get that frame of reference then one you are way too young and two GOOGLE it) so I was excited about her new Heartbreak Bay series, but after reading Sweet Little Lies I am beyond excited. I want to shout from the rooftops about this series because these are my people! This ragtag group of friends who are closer than any family are intriguing beyond words, funny, exciting, a whole lot crazy and they have each other’s back no matter what the circumstance. The first book in a new series is always tricky because the author has to set up the series, introduce the characters and still manage to give the couple enough time for their romance to blossom and Ms. Shalvis did that with flair. She did is so well, I want to move into their little community and ogle the men and watch what life throws their way because it is way better than anything on television these days.

At age 18 Pru Harris’ life was turned upside down and every day since that day she’s striven to make things right. It wasn’t her burden to take on, but to someone like Pru who feels so deeply it is something she felt like she must do and something that she’s been very successful at with the exception of one person. Now living in an apartment above his pub, Pru intends to finish what she started and then hopefully move on and get a life of her own. I can’t even begin to describe how completely selfless Pru is or the fact that she’s given up so much and expects nothing in return. She loves her job as a day cruise ship captain, she loves her boss (even after a brief fling that they’ve moved past) and she is beginning to see that the people who live in her courtyard are good people and fun to be around. She also knows that they would do anything for Finn O’Riley one of the owners of O’Riley’s Pub and the man she intends on seeing happy.
I think Pru is one of those people who has never in her life done anything truly bad. She is a genuinely good person and always has other people’s best interest at heart, so it’s no wonder she is easily accepted into the courtyard’s group of friends so easily. While Pru plans to help Finn find balance and happy in his life, what she doesn’t expect is to end up in a topsy turvy relationship with him; something that she believes shouldn’t be happening, something that she knows won’t end well because of her secret and something at that her boss, ex-lover and for all intents and purposes the Jiminy Cricket conscience Jake told her she had to fess up to before things get serious.
Through all their ups and downs their people, their crew, their nosy friends are there to cheer them off, knock some sense into them and or just be there and the book wouldn’t be the same without them. Finn’s brother Sean, Pru’s ex Jake as well as Archer, Willa, Spencer, Elle, Hailey, old homeless guy, Eddie and yes even Thor, the dog all added so much to this very entertaining story.
I’m going to admit that I am on a book high after reading Sweet Little Lies; it had everything I love in romance including intriguing loveable characters, fun times, serious moments, sexy times and a whole lot of love and I am thrilled that Jill Shalvis has created another fantastic series for her readers to enjoy.
