Garrett Leigh wrote true love, despair, friendship and tragedy in a way that had me turning page after page after page wanting and then not wanting to know what was going to happen next. The story was beautiful, the love was true and the ending left me with a smile. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

Web designer Jodi Peters is a solitary creature. Lunch twice a week with his ex-girlfriend-turned-BFF and the occasional messy venture to a dodgy gay bar is all the company he needs, right?
Then one night he stumbles across newly divorced firefighter Rupert O’Neil. Rupert is lost and lonely, but just about the sweetest bloke Jodi has ever known. Add in the heady current between them, and Jodi can’t help falling hard in love. He offers Rupert a home within the walls of his cosy Tottenham flat—a sanctuary to nurture their own brand of family—and for four blissful years, life is never sweeter.
Until a cruel twist of fate snatches it all away. A moment of distraction leaves Jodi fighting for a life he can’t remember and shatters Rupert’s heart. Jodi doesn’t know him—or want to. With little left of the man he adores, Rupert must cling to what remains of his shaky faith and pray that Jodi can learn to love him again.

I was absolutely blown away with What Remains. I have never read a more realistic, loving or caring M/M book as this. It went so far beyond what true love means that I started questioning myself if I were in the position Rupert was in. My heart broke, I cried and then I smiled. Every emotion that I have was wrung out of me in the story and I am thrilled that I took the time to read it.
caring M/M book as this. It went so far beyond what true love means that I started questioning myself if I were in the position Rupert was in. My heart broke, I cried and then I smiled. Every emotion that I have was wrung out of me in the story and I am thrilled that I took the time to read it.
There is no way to describe what truly went on in this story. The love Jodi and Rupert had was beautiful and then was ripped away from them. But, Rupert held true to his feelings and fought for what they once had, even if Jodi couldn’t remember them being together.
Fighting his “perverse” feelings, Jodi finally comes to realize that there is nothing perverse about what he is feeling and wanting from Rupert. Thanks to some hints from Sophie, a chance meeting on the Tube and the mutterings of a little girl, Jodi finally understands what and why he is feeling so drawn to and comfortable with Rupe. There may be times that Jodi has to fight his fears and learn to live with the missing times but he is positive that he loves Rupert.
What Remains was a very emotional story. Rupert remembering all the wonderful times they had together while sitting in the hospital holding Jodi’s hand just broke me. Jodi pushing away from Rupert thinking Sophie was still his girlfriend, killed me. Watching Rupert accept that Jodi may never feel for him again, shattered my heart. But, as they started coming together again, making new memories and trying to fill in the blanks of the past, I started smiling and hoping for the best. Now, I didn’t get the ending that I was praying for but I got a beautiful end anyway and I wasn’t disappointed.
Garrett Leigh wrote a beautiful love story that just happened to have a tragedy in it. I was amazed at how the story just flowed from the pages and how wonderfully her characters were written. I can’t do the story justice in a review because there is no way to describe just how heart-wrenching and beautiful this story is. She wrote true love, despair, friendship and tragedy in a way that had me turning page after page after page wanting and then not wanting to know what was going to happen next. The story was beautiful, the love was true and the ending left me with a smile.

About Garrett Leigh
Garrett Leigh is a British writer and book designer, currently working for Dreamspinner Press, Loose Id, Riptide Publishing, and Black Jazz Press. Her protagonists will always always be tortured, crippled, broken, and deeply flawed. Throw in a tale of enduring true love, some stubbly facial hair, and a bunch of tattoos, and you’ve got yourself a Garrett special.
When not writing, Garrett can generally be found procrastinating on Twitter, cooking up a storm, or sitting on her behind doing as little as possible. That, and dreaming up new ways to torture her characters. Garrett believes in happy endings; she just likes to make her boys work for it.
Garrett also works as a freelance cover artist for various publishing houses and independent authors under the pseudonym G.D. Leigh. For cover art info, please visit blackjazzpress.com.

This book sounds like it’s right up my alley 🙂 I love stories about at least one of the hero’s being sad, broken, lonely etc and then having that hurt loved right out of them. Look forward to reading it for myself.
