Except the commoner is a man, the royal is the Prince of Wales and heir to the throne of England, and the secret is that he’s gay. This book enchanted me right from the very start and drew me in to a story about the choices between love, obligation, and finding out who you really are. Simply put, I loved this book and didn’t want it to end.
Ben is a reporter who accidentally encounters James, the crown prince, in an unguarded moment and the two quickly establish a physical relationship. But the instant attraction grows into genuine affection and companionship and I couldn’t have adored these two men more. Ben was dominant and confident and in control of his life, and a perfect match to James’ innocence and quiet strength. They were thoughtful and compassionate and sexy as hell together, and my heart broke for their broken pasts and the choices they had to make out of duty. I found myself literally crying over the decisions they had to make, and it was then that I realized what a truly talented writer Lilah Pace is. I was so invested in these men and cared for them so deeply that they had become real to me. The detail of James’ and Ben’s romps through the British palaces and adherence to protocol also showed me that not a small amount of research must have taken place to write this story. It was well thought out, engaging, erotic and touching. It was perfect.
Although this story ended in a cliffhanger, it stopped at the perfect point. I was heartened and giddy but still aching for more of this beautiful story. Anyone not putting this on the top of their TBR pile is absolutely missing out on a true gem. I wish I could give this more than five stars as this is most certainly one of my favorite books that I’ve read this year.
