I didn’t want this story to end and I hope we get to spend more time in this world. This is my first Nicole Chase book, but it definitely won’t be my last. ~ Afrodyt, Guilty Pleasures

Jake Simmon, the son of the Vice President of the United States, is a wounded war hero, finally atruegemawardhome to move his life forward. He’s the polished, eligible bachelor worshiped by scores of women and followed around by the media. An amputee, he bears the visible and invisible scars of war and a crippling sense of survivors guilt. This doesn’t stop him from reluctantly giving in to his mothers demands to support her political ambitions and take on an initiative to support other wounded vets. He gets thrown together with Maddie, whom he hasn’t seen since she was an annoying teenager. Their relationship had been mostly based on obligations to their parents political agendas.

Madeleine Maguire is the adult daughter of the President of the United States of America. While proud of her father’s accomplishments, she longs for a life where she can live without such intense scrutiny and other people’s expectations. She’s passionate about animals and activism and her father is encouraging her to bring that spirit into the political arena. Maddie is thrown in to a project with Jake as part of community service but also so the family can keep an eye on her. She’s no longer that cranky teen Jake once knew and he’s no longer the entitled “golden boy” she remembers. Eventually, the sparks start flying.

I loved everything about this story. Jake and Maddie had history, great chemistry and a willingness to be honest with each other from the start. Maddie is feisty and compassionate and smart. A refreshingly strong heroine who’s good in all her relationships.

Jake has such a good heart. I enjoyed the way he showed his love to the people in his life. The sex scenes were outstanding, although I wish there were more of them. From the Secret Service detail, to the White House protocol and all that comes with trying to have a private life in the public eye, this story was a fascinating contemporary tale of a very exclusive environment. I didn’t want this story to end and I hope we get to spend more time in this world. This is my first Nicole Chase book, but it definitely won’t be my last.
