K. Bromberg has a wonderful way of telling a story. She tells beautiful stories and gives us complicated characters. She brings us thoroughly into their lives and makes us understand what they went through and are going through and allows us to enjoy the good times, anguish through the bad times and smile straight through the happily-ever-after. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

I had a hard time getting into Down Shift. I love the Driven series and was thrilled when this showed up on my Kindle to review. I was primed for Zander and Getty and couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this story. Unfortunately, it took me a while to finally enjoy it. But, when the tide turned, I couldn’t stop reading it to see just where we were going to end up.

Both Zander and Getty are running from their pasts. And, they are both really feeling sorry for themselves. When they find themselves as unexpected roommates, in an unexpected way, there can’t be anything but animosity. But, as time wears on and as barriers are broken down, built back up and then broken down again, they can’t help but start having feelings for each other.

Zander was actually a very interesting character. He knew he had to face his past so that he could move forward with his future. He knew he had to make amends to those that love him and have been there for him. He was also very sweet and understanding with Getty. Even when she shut him down time after time. But, I had a problem with him not manning up and taking the bull by the horns and moving forward.
Getty just wasn’t my cup of tea. Yes, I felt sorry for the life she led and for the injustices done to her. But, I am a huge advocate of being a strong woman, facing your problems and dealing. I will give her absolute credit for getting away from the situation and trying to move forward. But, I had a hard time with the way she was doing it. I felt like she was hiding, not dealing. When she finally has the chance to open up to a man who has been nothing but kind and wonderful, she shuts down. And, this brings me to the same problem that I had with Zander.

As things finally start coming out in the open, as they both finally start baring their souls to each other, I finally saw the characters that I have been waiting to see. Then, I just jumped right into the story. I watched them both heal, become stronger, become the people I knew they could both be. But, it took a long while to get them there. I loved the ending and the Epilogue just confirmed my suspicions.

Even though I had a hard time getting into the story, and I had issues with Zander and Getty in the beginning, they came through for me. Getty finally started living for the day and not in the past. Zander finally faced his past and went from Mander to Zander and then had to face his feelings for Socks.

K. Bromberg has a wonderful way of telling a story. My only problem was with how long it took for Zander and Getty to start moving forward. She tells beautiful stories and gives us complicated characters. She brings us thoroughly into their lives and makes us understand what they went through and are going through and allows us to enjoy the good times, anguish through the bad times and smile straight through the happily-ever-after. The story may have started off slow but, when it picked up, it sped me right around the Tricky Triangle. Yea, Pocono Raceway is only a few miles away from me so that was a pleasant surprise. So, my suggestion is that you just jump into this story and enjoy Zander and Getty.
