Ms. Carr knows how to write sexy and she gives her readers exactly what they want in Whiskey Eyes, but more than that she offers up a sweet and romantic love story, but with a bit of kink to make it interesting. ~ Slick, Guilty Pleasures

Macie Sparks’ number-one talent is talking. She’s a huge fan of her own voice. Always has been. But lately the resident Queen of Gossip has been feeling blue. While she’s helped several of her cousins find their happily ever afters, she can’t help but think she missed the boat somewhere.

Lucky for her, widower Hank Cooper is pretty fond of her stories and her off-color jokes and basically everything else Macie has to offer. After the death of his beloved wife, Hank found his way to Sparks Barbeque, where Macie caught his eye. The more time he spends with her, the more Hank starts to think that maybe lightning can strike twice. That a man can find two loves of a lifetime.

And while all Macie knows is dating and keeping it casual and staying single, Hank isn’t willing to dance to her tune. Because he wants Macie in his bed…and his life…forever.

There’s something delicious about Mari Carr’s Sparks in Texas series and it’s not just the atruegemawardbarbeque the Sparks serve up in the family restaurant. It’s the way this family sticks together and protects their own including their close friends, it’s the way they give each other sh*t but the love is evident, and it’s the way they support one another not matter what the situation. Ms. Carr knows how to write sexy and she gives her readers exactly what they want in Whiskey Eyes, but more than that she offers up a sweet and romantic love story, but with a bit of kink to make it interesting.

Macie Sparks has always spoken up for anyone she feels has been mistreated and she’s watch many of her family and friends fall in love several in unconventional relationships, but Macie hasn’t found the right man or so she thinks until one night local rancher and loyal Sparks customer, Hank Cooper, takes that decision out of her hands and places it firmly in his.

I love Macie’s sassy attitude and her outrageous personality, but I really loved watching Hank make her tongue tied. Hank is a force to be reckoned with; he’s older than Macie by 11 years, his wife of 20 years passed away over a year ago and the women of Maris, Texas have been waiting for him to be ready to date again, but Hank doesn’t want just anyone he wants Macie. While some might take issue with Hank’s lack of dating finesse and his seemingly overbearing personality, Macie seems to enjoy that side of him which makes her a good match for the lonesome cowboy.

I appreciated that while they had a few moments where Hank’s ex-wife, Macie’s former lover, and an overzealous wannabe suitor upset their happy little bubble, they both are reasonable enough to talk it through and move forward. Considering their age difference and everything else this book was surprisingly low on drama and high on sexiness making it a fantastic story.
