Candace Blevins has hit a home run with the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy. Slave was an interesting and erotic story. A little love and a whole lot of Kink. ~ Kitty, Guilty Pleasures

Blurb:
Because you’re never too old for Faerie Tales…

Halflings born in the human realm can stay if they can pass for human, but a baby with bright red and yellow hair, pointed ears, glowing green eyes, and swirled purple and green nails had to be relocated. With no family in Faerie to claim her, the newborn was auctioned off as a slave.

In Faerie, slaves are property with no rights. The baby is now an adult, and has been given in tribute to The Winter Queen.

Queen Mab has worked hard to make everyone in Faerie fear her, but her new pleasure slave enjoys the kiss of her whip. Can the Dark Queen have a tender side? The Dragon King once loved her, after all, so there has to be more to her than the evil, ruthless queen we’ve seen so far.

Climb aboard and experience the best and worst the Winter Queen can dish out.

Slave is book one in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy. The series takes place within the greater Kirstin O’Shea universe, but can be read without being familiar with the other books and series.

Candace Blevins totally surprised me with Slave. I was expecting Queen Mab to be a total bitch from reading her in other stories but I actually found her to be tough but kind, demanding yet loving. And, I can honestly say, I loved that Candace’s kinky imagination was back in full force. I adore her storytelling abilities but absolutely love her kinky and BDSM stories.

The transformation of Little One into Tabitha was completely amazing. Watching Little One fall in love with the Dark Queen was amazing. What she wouldn’t do to please her Queen was boundless. She was brought up to be a slave and knew her place within the hierarchy of the Fae Realm. But, when her true family is found, her way of life, her way of thinking is brutally uprooted. Now, she’s Tabitha with a real family and a life that she has no idea of how to navigate. She’s lost her love, she’s lost the pain that she needs and, she feels like she lost herself.

The Dark Queen does have a heart. One that is breaking as she gives her Little One a name and sends her on her way. She’s never felt fully loved as she had with her. She’s never had anyone truly give her heart to her. It’s breaking her but she knows that it’s the right thing to do. In her heart of hearts, she knows that she can’t give her up forever and will find a way to bring her home.

What will the future bring for Little One? I am sure that Candace Blevins will surprise us with some kind of twist that brings Tabitha back to Mab.

I loved the kinky in this story … there was a lot of bondage, domination and S/m in this story but it is no where near BDSM since nothing was consensual. If Candace Blevins taught me anything, it was the difference between Kink and BDSM. And, she is the most wonderful storyteller of this kind of book. She brings these scenes to life, she lets you feel the peace in being submissive and the excitement of being masochistic. She also brings you into their heads, lets you know what they are feeling and why. I am definitely looking forward to Lady, the next book in this series, to see where she is taking us next on Little One’s journey.
