Blurb:

Mainer Farms is steeped in family history, but it’s also deep in debt from the effects of the ever-changing farming industry. Not about to let his family’s legacy go under, Colt Mancinkus is willing to do anything he can to save the farm.

Darby Culhane is the new farmer in Whynot, North Carolina, and she’s proving to be quite the forbidden temptation for Colt. Darby isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start, and she’s got it all figured out. Get settled in? Check. Apply for the rural county grant? Check. Confrontation with the steaming mad, smoking hot local farmer? Well, that wasn’t on the agenda.

As pretty as she is sweet, Colt can’t help but be drawn to Darby’s…peaches. No really, she’s a peach farmer. Get that mind out of the gutter, and get on down to the farm to see what happens when circumstances force Colt and Darby to team up. They may just find that the peach trees aren’t the only things in bloom.

I love author Juliette Poe because she took a situation that could have made Pretty as a Peach overly angst filled and instead turned it around and made this book into a sweet romance filled with wonderful characters, intense chemistry but with a slow burn that was perfect for this couple.

The minute Colt and Darby see one another; you can feel the attraction pulling at them both. Darby is recently separated and in the middle of a divorce from her less than stellar husband. Her daughter, Linnie, is struggling with the divorce mainly because the girl’s father is a professional sh*t stirrer and is purposely trying to pit her against her mom. Because of this situation Ms. Poe gives Darby and Colt a lot of time to build a friendship first allowing them to really get to know one another as their relationship builds. I appreciate this because of Darby’s situation and also because Colt was just as concerned about Linnie’s state of mind as her mother.

As this book unfolds it becomes very clear that Colt is dedicated to keeping the family farm alive as the 8th generation farmer despite how farming has changed and the challenges he faces. He finds an ally in Darby who because of her advanced degrees offers him both help and encouragement as she realizes how important Colt and the family are to the community. I loved that Darby and Linnie were immediately accepted into the town of Whynot and the support they are given has Darby reassessing her life goals as well.

I loved these two together and they way they were careful in their relationship so as not to confuse Linnie, yet despite Darby’s marital status realized there was something special building between them.

Filled with love of all kinds, characters that grab a hold of your heart, and just a touch of suspense to make it interesting, author Juliette Poe continues to give readers heartwarming small town romances that are impossible to put down.
