Synopsis:

In this Destination Brides story, while on vacation in Provence, homebody Jenna Brown embarks on a no-strings affair with a handsome stranger. But there’s more to wealthy playboy Philippe D’Usay than meets the eye. Scarred by loss, Philippe’s committed to being alone. But after their Provençal adventure ends, and Jenna discovers she’s pregnant, they must decide if their short-term connection could become a life together forever!

Who hasn’t dreamed of a hot, holiday romance?  In Barbara Wallace’s One Night in Provence a young woman takes a trip of a lifetime and finds love and more when she meets a sexy Frenchman whose life has been filled with loss. A sweet and sexy romance filled with emotion with a beautiful setting made One Night in Provence an engaging and lovely story.

Jenna Brown was instructed to live by her benefactor so she embarks on a holiday in Provence to soak up the atmosphere and experience new things. She never expects to meet Phillipe D’Usay, a sexy and charming playboy who charms her while showing her the sites and teaching her the history of the area.

Chemistry…I love when you can feel the chemistry between characters from the start and there was so much of it between Jenna and Phillipe so the fact that despite feeling it Jenna refused his advances and Phillipe continued to woo her.  It was easy to see that Phillipe’s family history was important to him and he reveled in the fact that Jenna was intrigued by it. Each and every moment they spent together was unique and helped cement their growing relationship.

A surprise pregnancy brings them back together, but watching them fall in love not only with their unborn child but each other was satisfying and special.

From start to finish, Ms. Wallace wrote an intriguing and fun romance; the characters were charming, the plot pleasing, and the ending perfect.

The Every Day Heroine Who Inspired One Night in Provence by Barbara Wallace

Donna Alward, Nina Singh, Liz Fielding and I have been friends for years.  Liz is the reason I write romances, Donna and I text daily, and Nina and I live less than an hour away from each other.  Despite our friendliness, we’d never had the chance to work on a group project before.  So when Donna and Nina suggested we do a series surrounding a Bucket List Vacation auction, I jumped at the idea.

Picking a location was easy.  I’ve always wanted to see the lavender fields of France and I’ve always wanted to stay in a luxury castle hotel.  So sending my heroine to Provence was a no brainer.  The real challenge was creating a heroine worthy of my great vacation.

Enter Christine.

At the time I was plotting this novel, my mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s was coming to end.  She’d moved from her assisted living unit to a nursing home for hospice care.  Christine was one of her nurses.

I don’t know Christine’s last name.  Most likely I never will.  But I’ll never forget the compassion she and her colleagues showed my mother during those last weeks.  They were patient to a fault.  When my mother messed her bed (which was often), they cleaned her up with a smile.  When she insisted on taking off her shirt and sitting topless (also often), they simply smiled and put her shirt back on.  They fed her oatmeal and ice cream, they combed her hair, and they tried their best to give her dignity during her final weeks.

I honestly don’t know how they did it, day in and day out, with such good humor and kindness.  Since I lived five minutes away from the home, I was there often and no matter who was on duty, the behavior was the same.  Christine told me once that her mom had Alzheimer’s and that she simply treated every patient the way she treated her own mom.

Watching these people made me realize it takes a special person to be a hospice care worker.  Who better to treat with a once-in-lifetime vacation? Sadly, I couldn’t afford to give Christine a real vacation, so I invented Jenna Brown, a dedicated hospice worker who inherits money from a patient and gave the trip to her.

(By the way, Jenna isn’t the only character inspired by the nursing home. Lola, the elderly dementia patient, is based on my mom’s nursing home neighbor.  Her smiling face and funny comments made every visit a joy.  The scene where Lola builds a puzzle with scraps of paper – that really happened!)

I do hope you’ll read One Night in Provence and escape to the lavender fields with Jenna.  The book isn’t simply about a fabulous vacation.  It’s about taking risks and learning to trust in love’s staying power.  Both my hero Philippe and Jenna have some tough lessons to learn before they are ready to be a family.  Luckily for readers, they get to learn these lessons while visiting some of the most beautiful settings in the world.
