After the cliffhanger in book 1, and an excruciating two week wait for the conclusion, my only salve was that this genre promises an HEA. That’s all I had to hold onto.
It sure was an exciting ride though!
The story is so vividly told that I tried to press the actual pause button whenever I had to put down my e-reader. Which was rare, by the way.
One of the realest things written here is that sometimes the so-called “good guys” take a loss but have to get back up over and over again and keep fighting.
There are many layers in this story and it would be too easy to have spoilers all up in this review, but I won’t do that.
What I can say is that the beautiful thing about these characters is that Maxim has money and power amassed not just by the privileged start he’s had in life and what society affords men like him, but also because he was willing to leverage it to build something of his own outside of his family’s influence. He dedicated himself to forging his own path. In many ways Maxim is self-made and that made his swagger authentic and super sexy.
He is the brilliant exalted sun while Lennix is the luminous glorious moon. Her success was also self made with many obstacles she had to overcome and very little privilege. Lennix is a fierce force of nature because of the strength of purpose passed on to her through her lineage and traditions. It gave her a wealth of spirit that transcends material wealth.
In many ways they are the perfect, combustible match ferocious in life and with each other. With scorching love scenes and thought provoking monologues, wit and wisdom, this book series is one of this years best. It’s worth more than five stars and is a pure delight!
