The perfect introduction to a new world of strong women and hired guns. This story was exaggerated and over the top in its situations and characters, and it was just so much fun. ~ Leigh – Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Synopsis:

She’s Got the Guns, the debut Thriller-Suspense from Author M.O. Mack…

What could possibly be worse than being beaten, broke, and on the run from a dangerous criminal? What if that criminal is your ex and works for the FBI?

Oh, and then there’s the tiny matter of landing a job. Not so easy for a woman on the run.

Which is why when Emily Rockford gets a gig, answering the phone for a “pest control” company, she thinks her luck is turning.

Until…she discovers the business is a cover.

For hit men. A big, dangerous, deadly group of them.

It’s just about the last place Emily wants to be, but as she’s about to find out, once you’re in, you’re in. There is no out. There is no quitting.

Will she embrace the dangerous world she’s stumbled onto? Or will she find a way to outrun them all?

M. O. Mack is a new suspense author for me, but her writing style and ability to pull me in to a fast-paced, wild story felt like an old friend.

Right from the start, I could picture every detail of the setting and felt myself slip into the seedy office where Emily sat, and feel the minutes tick by as she sat at her “ask no questions”, boring job. I could feel the unease as Emily figured out what it was that her mystery employer really did, and the anxiety that escalated when Mr. Cold Eyes walked in the door demanding information and money.

I loved reading about a world that exists in the shadows and on the fringe. In the best way possible, this story of a company of hired assassins was exaggerated and over the top in its situations and characters, and it was so much fun.

Almost as much as I adored the humor and forbidden nature of the story, I also enjoyed reading about Emily herself. Here was a woman on the run, always made to feel weak and worthless, without ever realizing what power she possessed. She was a strong woman because she felt fear, yet still reached within herself to find an inner core of steel that she never realized she had. Watching her grow and become the lion she was meant to be was a satisfying journey.

The characters and the feelings that the writing created reminded me a lot of Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie Plum series in that they were both well written, on the edge of society, and a group dedicated to taking out those less desirable. This story was the perfect introduction to what I hope is a new world of strong women and hired guns, and I can’t wait for more.
