Lucas

My dreams of making it to the big league had finally come true,

But one wild night in a strip club which was clearly a mistake

Landed me squarely on the team’s bad boy list.

The PR manager is supposed to smooth it all over,

Too bad all I wanted was to get in trouble with her.

I wasn’t really the playboy they thought I was,

I just needed to find the right woman to set me straight.

Now I just have to prove I’m not what she thought.

Carmen

I have the career I’ve always dreamed of,

Even if I have to deal with players who can’t seem to keep out of the news.

What’s more infuriating is the one player I want to hate the most I can’t stop thinking about.

The one whose voice makes me want to drop my panties at his feet.

I know all about his playboy ways,

But I also know the press can spin things to fit their narrative.

Is he really as innocent as he claims to be? Or will he throw a screw ball I never saw coming?

A hot baseball player, the woman who could ultimately make or break his career, a match made in heaven or the ultimate downfall? When I first started reading The Screwball, I was convinced that I was going to read a story about a womanizing, self-centered baseball player who got what he wanted when he wanted. Well, I was wrong. It was actually a story about a once-womanizing, self-centered baseball player who found out that sometimes you have to work for what you want. And, with a little hard work and honesty, good things may come your way. I sincerely started off rolling my eyes at Lucas. Then he earned my respect. He turned out to be a hard-working, interesting man. He was on a mission and knew what he had to do. Surprisingly, it wasn’t an act. He was genuine. Yes, he knew what he wanted and he went after it … the right way. I admired his perseverance and his style. He didn’t push, he earned the trust of Carmen and he didn’t take advantage of anything that she offered. Carmen was determined to not like Lucas. She figured he would be her new problem child. Then she got to know him and unexpectedly was impressed. Impressed enough to give him the time of day … on her terms. She couldn’t be happier or more surprised that he agreed to her terms and was willing to play ball on her field. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few bumps in the road but nothing major. I enjoyed reading a story with little to no drama. I always prepare myself for the worst and love it when I am pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the back-story and the family that surrounded Lucas and Carmen. They were a nice addition and added another layer to the characters. The only downfall for me was how quick everything happened. Carmen went from cold to hot in a hot minute. But, it worked out the way it should have. Samantha Lind gave us a nice love story with a little bit of baseball (tis the season) and a lot of love. A good summer read!
