Don’t let the fact that these are “Amish romance” fool you, these are just as sexy as any other M/M romance, and I loved being a part of Isaac and David’s journey. ~ Slick – Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Isaac knows his sinful desire for David is forbidden.

In the strict Amish settlement of Zebulon, Minnesota, every detail of life—down to the width of a hat brim—is dictated by God and the all-powerful rules of the community. There’s no rumspringa for exploration beyond the boundaries of their insular world. Isaac will soon have to officially join the church and take a wife, but he yearns for freedom.

He yearns for David.

When he becomes David’s carpentry apprentice, Isaac discovers he’s not alone in his longing. Passion ignites amid sweat and sawdust. Somehow, Isaac and David must reconcile their deepening love for each other with their commitment to faith, family, and community.

Now that they’ve found each other, are they willing to lose it all?

**Reviewer’s note: I’m not one to read Amish romance or in truth religious romance, but several M/M romance writers recommended this book when it was on sale (it’s also available on KU) and I decided to give it a try. Let me be clear this romance contains sex between the two men in the story, quite a bit of sex so it isn’t a “clean” romance as some people say even though I don’t personally agree with that term. Yes the Amish way of life is present but I feel the author did a very good job of being respectful of the Amish and their beliefs while also exploring what happens when someone realizes that’s not what they want for their own life.**

When Isaac is told by his father he will be a carpentry apprentice for David Lantz he is shocked, excited, and honestly a bit scared. He knows David is the best carpenter in their settlement of Zebulon, but Isaac also knows that he feels something towards David that he can’t explain.

I enjoyed this story even though at times it seemed to drag in parts, but I understand that the author was setting the scene. She wanted readers to understand the life that these two men had been brought up in going from one order that was considered to lenient to this very strict one. It also helped to see how much their families relied on them, especially David’s family and how close they were to their siblings. We also learned that David’s older brother made a grave mistake that cost him and two young girls their lives and that Isaac’s oldest brother left the order and was shunned giving us insight into their thought process as they figure out their own lives.

Their relationship built slowly but the tension between them was evident from the start. Both fought their feelings knowing in the eyes of the church, their parents and God what they wanted with one another was a sin that would lead straight to hell. It was easy to pick up on how torn they were and their emotions from Ms. Andrew’s brilliant writing.

As I don’t want to spoil anymore of this story, I will say this book ends with a HEA and that is well worth the time to read it. There are two books that follow it that follows Isaac and David and they deal with their new life that are just as well written. Don’t let the fact that these are “Amish romance” fool you, these are just as sexy as any other M/M romance, and I loved being a part of Isaac and David’s journey.
